摘要： P-polarized light beam passing through an f&thetas; lens passes through a polarization beam splitter, is converted into S-polarized light beam by a quarter-wave plate and a reflecting mirror, re-enters the polarization beam splitter, and is reflected at the polarization beam splitter in the −Z direction. An optical path of a light beam between a polygon mirror and the f&thetas; lens, between the f&thetas; lens and the polarization beam splitter, between the polarization beam splitter and the quarter-wave plate, between the quarter-wave plate and a reflecting mirror, between the reflecting mirror and the quarter-wave plate, and between the quarter-wave plate and the polarization beam splitter are in the same plane.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical scanner of a new configuration capable of being made high in operating speed and high in density by improving availability of light rays. SOLUTION: The optical scanner has: a light source 1 in which a plurality of light emitting elements are arranged two-dimensionally; first optical systems 2 to 4 which guide the plurality of light beams from the light sources 1 to a deflection means 5; and second optical systems 6 and 7 which guide the plurality of light beams from the deflection means 5 to a face 9 to be scanned. When the scanning direction with the deflection means 5 is defined as a main scanning direction and the direction which is orthogonal to the main scanning direction and to the optical axes of the first and the second optical systems is defined as a subscanning direction, the distance between the light emitting elements on the outermost periphery in the main scanning direction is longer than that between the light emitting elements on the outermost periphery in the subscanning direction, further, the absolute value ¾βs¾ of the transverse magnification in the subscanning direction of the optical systems is made larger than the absolute value ¾βm¾ of the transverse magnification in the main scanning direction, thus the beam pitch on a face to be scanned is made small, thereby easily making the optical scanner high in density and high in operating speed.
