    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical scanner of a new configuration capable of being made high in operating speed and high in density by improving availability of light rays. SOLUTION: The optical scanner has: a light source 1 in which a plurality of light emitting elements are arranged two-dimensionally; first optical systems 2 to 4 which guide the plurality of light beams from the light sources 1 to a deflection means 5; and second optical systems 6 and 7 which guide the plurality of light beams from the deflection means 5 to a face 9 to be scanned. When the scanning direction with the deflection means 5 is defined as a main scanning direction and the direction which is orthogonal to the main scanning direction and to the optical axes of the first and the second optical systems is defined as a subscanning direction, the distance between the light emitting elements on the outermost periphery in the main scanning direction is longer than that between the light emitting elements on the outermost periphery in the subscanning direction, further, the absolute value ¾βs¾ of the transverse magnification in the subscanning direction of the optical systems is made larger than the absolute value ¾βm¾ of the transverse magnification in the main scanning direction, thus the beam pitch on a face to be scanned is made small, thereby easily making the optical scanner high in density and high in operating speed.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively reduce the phenomenon of vertical line fluctuation due to the difference in light emitting wavelengths of light sources in a multibeam scanning. SOLUTION: The multibeam scanner has: a plurality of light sources 1 and 1'; an optical deflector 4 which deflects respective light beams; scanning and focusing optical systems 5 and 6 which form the respective deflected beams into a plurality of light spots on a face to be scanned 7; a light receiving means 10 common to the plurality of beams; an optical system for synchronization beam which guides the respective deflected beams to the light receiving means 10, wherein the optical system for synchronization beam makes the respective deflected beams pass through one or more scanning lenses, guides the deflected beams by deflecting the direction of a main light beam of the deflected beams with a refraction optical element 11 to the light receiving means, the refraction optical element 11 is a condensing lens having positive power in a main scanning direction, is arranged eccentrically for defecting the direction of the main light beam of the incident deflected beams, and forms the image of the deflected beams in the main scanning direction in the vicinity of the light receiving face of the light receiving means with the positive power in the main scanning direction.
