摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problems in the conventional opening/closing state detecting mechanism that an image reader having a platen cover which is an opening/closing body that the opening/closing state of the platen cover has been detected by detecting a feeler fixed to the platen cover by means of an opening/closing sensor mounted at a reading section which is a device body, but that this detection is not possible in reading documents, such as books, having thickness and the automatic decision of documents sizes has not been possible. SOLUTION: This mechanism is provided with a platen cover 7, which is turnable about a turning fulcrum 23 and is vertically movable relative to a reading case 13, is erected with the feeler 31 near the turning fulcrum 23 of the reading case 13 and the opening/closing sensor 33 for detecting the feeler 31 is fixed to the platen cover 7. This opening/closing sensor is arranged alongside the feeler 31.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that the distance between the light source of a scanner and platen glass (original) cannot be held fixed to affect image reading when the assembly accuracy of members or the molding accuracy of the member themselves is poor because a member supporting platen glass constituting an original placing surface is made of one member and a member slidingly supporting a scanner is made of another and these members are attached to a chassis in a conventional image reader. SOLUTION: In a configuration in which an image reader 6 is housed in a chassis 21 mold integrally in a box shape, made of resin, and in a reinforcing plate 23F attached along the moving direction of a scanner of the chassis 21, a cross section is formed in a U shape, its upper surface is defined as a surface 23a supporting platen glass, its lower surface is also defined as a sliding surface 23b of the scanner, the plate 23F is made of sheet metal, and the surfaces 23a and 23b area arranged parallelly.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problems that there is a limit to improve the molding accuracy of a peripheral part such as a chassis and a guide rod and that cost also becomes high even though the molding accuracy and the assembling accuracy of the guide rod and a bracket supporting the guide rod are required to be improved because the distance between a scanner light source and platen glass (origin) has to be maintained to be constant in an image reader. SOLUTION: The image reader 6 makes a scanner 60 scan along the guide rod 61, the device is housed in a chassis 21 made of resin, the guide rod 60 is supported by mounting holes 31 and 32 of the both sides of the chassis, a mounting member 25 for fixing the guide rod to the chassis is provided at one end of the guide rod, and the mounting member is fixed by a plate 23L for supporting platen glass and a common fastning tool 25c.
