摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a self-illuminative and outside light-illuminative (dually illuminative) liquid crystal display device provided with a translucent and reflective layer, which is made so thin and lightweight that it is difficult to be achieved in the case of the liquid crystal display having a side light type light guide plate and has excellent display quality. SOLUTION: This liquid crystal display device has a liquid crystal display panel (1) provided with at least a liquid crystal cell formed by using a rear side substrate and a visible side substrate each of which is prepared by forming at least a transparent layer (14 or 24) of the refractive index lower than that of a transparent substrate (10 or 20) and the translucent and reflective layer (11) for transmitting and reflecting light or a transparent electrode (21) on the substrate (10 or 20). This display has also illuminators (5) arranged on two or more side faces of the panel (1) and optical path controlling layers (4, 41). The layer (4 or 41) has the refractive indexes higher than that of the layer (14 or 24) and a plurality of optical path changing slopes (A1, B1) which are formed on the outsides of the rear side substrate or the visible side substrate and each of which has 35-48 deg. angle of inclination with respect to the reference plane of the rear side substrate or the visible side substrate. The illuminators (5) are arranged at least on the different side faces of the panel (1), namely, on the side face of each of the substrates (10 and 20).

SOLUTION: This liquid crystal display device has a liquid crystal display panel (1) provided with at least a liquid crystal cell formed by interposing a liquid crystal (30) between a rear side substrate and a visible side substrate. The rear side substrate is prepared by forming at least a transparent layer (14) having a refractive index lower than that of a transparent substrate (10) and the translucent and reflective layer (11) for transmitting and reflecting light on the substrate (10). The visible side substrate is prepared by forming a transparent electrode (21) on another transparent substrate (20). These substrates are arranged so that the electrode sides of them are made opposite to each other. This display device has also illuminators (5) arranged on one or more side faces of the panel (1) and an optical path controlling layer (4) having the refractive index higher than that of the layer (14) and a plurality of optical path changing slopes (A1) which are formed on the outside of the rear side substrate and each of which has 35-48 deg. angle of inclination with respect to the reference plane of the rear side substrate.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To develop an optical element having a light emitting means which prevents transmission light from being scattered by a recessed side surface, has excellent front directional characteristics by effectively converting an optical path of lateral incident light into a vertical direction, and is hard to generate scattered light or moire. SOLUTION: The optical element comprises a light emitting means having a plurality of recesses discontinuously distributed on one side of a transparent base substrate. Each recess has an optical path converting slant surface and an opposing surface smaller in area than the optical pass converting slant surface. A manufacturing method of the optical element comprises a step for forming the light emitting means by repeating a step of forming a recess on the transparent substrate by laser etching. A manufacturing method of the optical element comprises a step for using the optical element as a mold to form an electroformed flask and transferring the shape of the flask to the substrate.
