    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the safety of density adjustment and the linear gradation of a low density part and a high density part by having a means which discriminates the existence of image density data in a linear conversion possible area, directly outputting density data in the case of its existence, outputting prescribed density data instead of it in the case of non-existence and allocating the difference between them to the next image density data. SOLUTION: Input image density data is compared with a comparison reference value B by a comparing means 31 and when it is the value B or more, corresponding output density is outputted from a selecting means 32. When it is less than the value B, the means 32 selects prescribed density '0' and outputs it. In such cases, inputted image density data becomes an error and it is added to input data of the next pixel by an adding means 30. After that, the value to which an error of the preceding pixel is added is compared as input data with the value B, and when an error is produced, the error is sequentially added to the next pixel, the error is dispersed and gradation is represented linearly.
