The air conditioner is provided with a means for collecting the refrigerating machine oil accumulating in the gas tubes 5 to the compressors 11A and 11B by stopping the operations of the outdoor units 1A and 1B and indoor units 3A and 3B in heating operation, switching the four-way valves 13A and 13B of the outdoor units 1A and 1B to positions in cooling operation, and flowing a liquid refrigerant in the gas tubes 5 by using a pressure difference across the four-way valves 13A and 13B switched to the positions in the cooling operation.
