    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate a torque change due to braking medium and allow effective braking moment to be caused by pushing a disc rotor having annular friction faces aligned in the axial direction against the friction surface of a housing in the axial direction by using a spring in the housing. SOLUTION: A housing 10 has a pot-like portion 12 with flat projections 14, 16 on both sides, the pot-like portion 12 being closed at its open side by a cover 22. A disc rotor 28 is arranged in a housing 10 and passed through a center hole in a cover 22 on the larger diameter side of am axial portion 30 molded on the disc rotor 28. The disc rotor 28 is supported at its shoulder 34 on the cover 22, which, at the opposite side, is engaged with the wall of the housing 10 and supported by a friction surface 36 fixed to the housing 10. A cup spring 36 is supported by the cover 22 on the outer periphery of the cup spring 36 in the radial direction while the radial inner periphery engages the disc rotor 28 to cause relatively low friction force during movement of the disc rotor 28.

    • PURPOSE: To provide a high braking torque using a small rotary damper by providing in a housing a pivot which, together with the housing, forms an annular space, enclosing a rotor in the annular space, and providing an annular cylindrical portion formed with annular clearances filled with a viscous material on both sides. CONSTITUTION: This damper comprises a rotational symmetrical housing 10 with a rotational symmetrical rotor 12 mounted therein, and the housing 10 has a hollow cylindrical pivot 16 extending from one end toward the internal space thereof, the pivot 16 having an end wall 18, with a cylindrical space 20 formed between the pivot 16 and the housing wall. The rotor 12 has a cylindrical portion projecting into an annular space 20 and the inner radial wall 24 of the rotor 12 makes contact with the inner wall 18 of the pivot 16. The support of the rotor 12 is determined such that the cylindrical portion 22 and the annular space 20 define a pair of annular clearances 40, 42 of approximately equal dimensions. The annular clearances 40, 42 are filled with a flowable viscous fluid. This arrangement provides a high braking torque although the damper is small.
