    • PURPOSE: To provide a handy optical fiber connecting device where the tips of two optical fibers are adjusted, positioned and fusion spliced. CONSTITUTION: The optical fiber connecting device consists of an optical fiber disconnecting device 1, a mechanically controlled fusion splicing device 11, holding devices 41 and 41' having transfer arms 31 and 31' and a low voltage power source 61. The disconnecting and fusion slicing devices 1 and 11, the holding devices 41 and 41' and the accessory transfer arms 31 and 31' are contained inside a casing 10 and the low voltage power source is contained inside an another casing 60. The low voltage power source 61 is connected to the high voltage circuit of the fusion slicing device 11 by a flexible cable 65. The transfer arms 31 and 31' align the axes of the held optical fiber and permits the holding devices 41 and 41' to move from a first operation station where an optical fiber tip is perpendicularly held to the scoring edge of a blade in the disconnecting device 1 to the second operation station where the optical fiber tip is held perpendicularly to the common axis of a fusion electrode in the fusion splicing device 1 and the adjusted end surface of the optical fiber where the axes are arranged is arranged between the electrodes.

    • PURPOSE: To easily cool a center member extruded from an extruder by forming the slots with two groups and making the depth of respective slots in one group larger than the depth of the respective slots in the other group. CONSTITUTION: The slots are constituted of the two groups 3 and 4 and the depths of the slots are equal in the respective groups. The depths of the respective slots in one group are larger than the depths of the slots in the other group. The slot in one group is arranged between the two slots in the other group. The respective slots have plural overlapped optical fiber ribbons. The number of the optical fiber ribbons in the slots of larger depths is larger than the number of the optical fiber ribbons in the slots with smaller depths. The mass of a plastic material in the unit length of the center member is reduced. Thus, the center member which is pushed out is easily cooled without deformation.

The board 1 further carries auxiliary copper islands 5 in the shape of rectangular pads and the auxiliary copper islands 5 are arranged in parallel with each other between different rows of holes 2 while being spaced apart from the annular islands 3 and the auxiliary islands 4.
