    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To atomize fuel spray, facilitate processing for forming an injection hole, heighten diffusibility of spray, and improve combustion efficiency in a fuel injection nozzle.SOLUTION: The fuel injection nozzle comprises: a nozzle body 4 having an injection hole 2 injecting fuel and a fuel passage 3 introducing fuel to the injection hole 2; and a needle 5 that is a shaft-like member inserted in the nozzle body 4, and constitutes a valve section 7 for opening/closing the fuel passage 3 by reciprocating movement to the nozzle body 4 in an axial direction together with the nozzle body 4. The fuel passage 3 has: a fuel storage section 8 for forming a space holding the fuel around the needle 5 together with an outer periphery of the needle 5; a fuel supply passage section 21 provided on an upper stream side than the fuel storage section 8 and introducing the fuel in an insertion direction of the needle 5 to the nozzle body 4; and a direction conversion passage section 22 provided between the fuel storage section 8 and the fuel supply passage section 21, and communicated with the fuel storage section 8 in a direction displaced from a radial direction of the needle 5 when seen in the axial direction of the needle 5.

SOLUTION: Values of an ignition delay and a flame spread rate regarding fuel to be determined are measured. If the measured value of the ignition delay falls within a range smaller than a reference line 71 or within a range greater than a reference line 72 as a first range according to the reference lines 71, 72 as first criterion for determining, it is determined whether or not the quality of the fuel to be determined is good based on good or poor quality of fuel determined by the first range. If the measured value of the ignition delay falls within a range from the reference line 71 to the reference line 72 as a second range according to the first criterion for determining, it is determined whether or not the quality of the fuel to be determined is good depending on whether or not the measured value of the flame spread rate falls within the range of a good-quality product according to a straight line 81 as a second criterion for determining.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel quality determining device and a determining method capable of an accurate and sure determination. SOLUTION: This fuel quality determining device has a combustion chamber provided with an observation window capable of visually confirming a combustion state from an external part when self-igniting fuel injected from an injection nozzle under a preset atmospheric condition, a light quantity measuring means for measuring a light quantity of a flame by combustion in this combustion chamber from the observation window, an injection control means for controlling injection of the fuel from the injection nozzle, and an analyzing means for analyzing injection control information composed of the injection starting timing for starting the injection of the fuel by this injection control means and the injection finishing timing of finishing the injection of the fuel and light quantity information provided by the light quantity measuring means. The fuel is burnt in a plurality of times by setting the inside of the combustion chamber as the first temperature. The fuel is burnt in a plurality of times by setting the inside of the combustion chamber as the second temperature different from the first temperature. The quality of the fuel is accurately determined on the basis of the dispersion in a varying curve of the respective light quantities, particularly, the length of the ignition timing in respective combustion.
