    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber holding device and holding method capable of always stably holding an optical fiber.SOLUTION: An optical fiber holding device 10 includes: a chuck 12 having a holding part 21 in which a pair of clipping parts 25 which have one-end sides connected together and are disposed with a gap G therebetween are formed; an elastic sleeve 13 which has a slit 31 formed partially in a circumferential direction throughout in a lengthwise direction and is made of an elastic material; and a pressing-in pipe 4 which presses the elastic sleeve 13 into the holding part 21 of the chuck 12. The elastic sleeve 13 is pressed into the holding part 21 of the chuck 12 by the pressing-in pipe with an optical fiber between the clipping parts 25 and is fitted onto the holding part 21, whereby the optical fiber is held between the clipping parts 25 by elastic force of the elastic sleeve 13. The gap G between the clipping parts 25 and the slit 31 of the elastic sleeve 13 are preliminarily shifted from each other in the circumferential direction so as not to be continuous.
