The drum control part makes the hydraulic motor function as a resistor by switching a flow passage of the hydraulic fluid by the flow passage switching valve when the drum is rotated in the rope delivering direction.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a winch for a tugboat, which prevents a rope from breaking even if a sudden tension is applied to the rope during towing. SOLUTION: The winch for a tugboat is provided wherein a winch drum winding a towing rope, which freely rotates in both forward and reverse directions and is rotation-controlled, comprises a brake drum which unitedly rotates with the winch drum, a brake band which is flexibly wound around the brake drum in circumferential direction, one end of which is fixed through a load detector and the other end of which is connected to an urging means through a link mechanism, and a brake controller which controls an oil pressure circuit activating the urging means. If a detection result of the load detector exceeds a specified value, the brake controller decreases urging force of the urging means, loosens the brake band and controls braking force of the winch drum so that the rope is let out from the winch drum within a range not exceeding a specified length. The winch includes: a shaft body linked and connected to a driving source and fitted with a first drum around which the rope for towing is rolled and a second drum around which the chain for the anchor is rolled; a bearing with an alignment function supporting the shaft body; a first clutch provided at the shaft body, and making on/off the transmission of power from the driving source to the first drum; and a second clutch provided at the shaft body, and making the transmission of power from the driving source to the second drum. Each clutch has a sealed structure sealed with grease.
