    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a self-aligning roller bearing, in which a permissible aligning angle can be further increased. SOLUTION: The self-aligning roller bearing includes an outer ring 2, an inner ring 3, a plurality of convex surface rollers 4 and a metallic retainer 5. The outer ring 2 has on its inner periphery a raceway surface 2a composed of part of a spherical surface. The inner ring 3 has on its outer periphery two raceway surfaces 3a and a cylindrical surface 3b formed therebetween. The two raceway surfaces 3a are formed symmetrically with respect to a cross section passing the axial center and vertical to the axis line and each of the raceway surfaces 3a has a radius the same as that of part of the spherical surface in the cross section containing the axis line. The convex surface rollers 4 are disposed between the raceway surface 2a of the outer ring 2 and the two raceway surfaces 3a of the inner ring 3 and each roller has an outer peripheral surface corresponding to the raceway surfaces 2a, 3a of the inner and outer rings 2, 3. The retainer 5 has pockets 6 for circumferentially locating the convex surface rollers 4 at certain intervals. The maximum diameter D2 of the retainer 5 is larger than the inner diameter D1 at the end face 2b of the outer ring 2. The retainer 5 is circumferentially split at two positions.
