    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a material suitable as a component of a liquid-crystal composition having larger Δε and lower viscosity in combination and also a practical liquid crystal composition by using the same. SOLUTION: A 1-(trifluoromethyl)naphthalene derivative and a liquid-crystal composition containing one or more of the above compounds are provided. Since the compound has a negative Δε of an extremely large absolute value, it is chemically stable to heat, light, water, etc., and is excellent in the compatibility with a recently widely used type of a liquid-crystalline compound or a liquid-crystal composition, it is suitable as a component of a practical liquid crystal composition driven by a low electric voltage.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To settle the problem that polyacene compounds have high carrier mobility and are expectable of used as an organic semiconductor but have low and unstable light resistance and oxidation resistance and have faults of difficulties in electronic device performance reproductivity, which difficulties are caused by low solubility in organic solvents.
      SOLUTION: Fluorine (F) is added at the benzene ring central part in the long chain direction of an acene compound to increase stability of oxidation resistance and the like and functional groups are added at both ends in the long chain direction to increase solubility to organic solvents so that the acene compound is widely usable in production of electronic devices as an organic semiconductor not only in dry processes but also in wet processes.
