摘要： PURPOSE:To reduce the crushing into particles of the catalytic part of a catalyst layer in a reaction pipe by a method wherein a catalyst layer in a reaction pipe is divided into two sections in such a manner that an upper catalyst layer part on a burner side is formed of a reforming catalyst low in catalytic activity but high in catalytic strength and a lower catalyst layer part on the reverse burner side is formed of a reforming catalyst high in catalytic activity but low in catalytic strength. CONSTITUTION:A raw gas to be reformed flowing from an inlet at the lower part of a reaction pipe 11 passes through a second catalyst layer part 22 filled with a reforming catalyst 23 high in catalytic activity but low in catalytic strength and thereafter through a first catalyst layer part 20 filled with a reforming catalyst 21 low in catalytic activity but high in catalytic strength. During this time, a combustion gas runs from a burner to below a combustion chamber 17 then into a combustion gas passage 18 and, by this combustion gas, catalyst layers 20 and 22 are heated through the reaction pipe 11, whereby the raw gas is subjected to steam reforming. At the start of heat cycle of the fuel reformer, although the heat shrinkage of the reaction pipe immediately below the burner is large, the crushing of the reforming catalyst into particles is reduced, since a catalyst 21 of the catalyst layer 20 is high in the catalytic strength.

摘要： PURPOSE:To obtain a hydrogen-contg. gas in high conversion at low cost using a compact equipment by reforming methanol through connection in series of an external heating-type reactor with the surface of the reaction tube made into catalyst and a thermal insulation-type catalyst-packed reactor. CONSTITUTION:(A) An external heating-type reactor 4 with the surface of the reaction tube made into catalyst and (B) a thermal insulation-type catalyst- packed reactor 5 are mutually connected in series. And, methanol or its mixture with water is fed, using a stock pump 1, via a stock preheater 2 and an evaporation superheater 3, into the reactor 4; concurrently, this reactor 4 is heated by a heating medium heater 7 and a heating medium circulating pump 6, thereby reforming the stock mixture. The resulting reformed gas is then fed into the reactor 5 where further reforming is carried out. The resultant reformed gas is cooled by a condenser 8 and then put to gas-liquid separation using a gas- liquid separator 9 followed by purification with a purifier 10, thus obtaining a hydrogen-contg. gas as the product.

CONSTITUTION:Silica wool, alumina wool or carbon fiber is used as the catalyst carrier, on which platinum, ruthenium, iridium or paradium is deposited as the active catalyst component by plating (chemical plating, electroless plating, electrolytic plating) or by vapor deposition method (CVD, PVD). By using this catalyst as the catalyst for decomposing methane gas, the collected amt. of precipitated carbon can be increased and the weight of the carrier itself can be decreased with larger specific surface area. Since the interval of changing the catalyst can be extended about twice, the electric power required for the cycle of heating and cooling the methane decomposing furnace can be reduced.

Especially when a heat- transfer tube carrying the catalytic component is used to reform methanol on the catalytic surface of the tube, the heat transfer function and catalytic action are simultaneously exhibited, and methanol is reformed in conformity to the purpose.
