    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cathode carbon block for aluminum smelting purpose which has low specific electric resistivity and high heat conductivity in order to improve the energy efficiency in an aluminum electrolytic furnace, and to provide the cathode carbon block for aluminum smelting purpose which has improved wettability for an aluminum melt and enables the reduction of the rate of electrochemical invasion to achieve a prolonged service life and the method for producing the same.SOLUTION: In a mixing step, a carbonization raw material and titanium carbide are mixed with each other at a mixing ratio of 64-97% carbonization raw material and 3-36% titanium carbide, wherein the ratio of titanium carbide in a raw material composition having ≤1 mm particle diameter is 5-100%. In a kneading and molding step, an organic binder is added into the mixture through the mixing step and the resulting mixture is kneaded and molded. In a firing step, the molding is fired. In a graphitization step, the fired body fired through the firing step is graphitized at 2,400-3,000°C.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for circulating a gas, in which the cost of a facility for cooling the circulating gas can be reduced and energy required to cool the circulating gas can be suppressed low when the circulating gas discharged from a dry distillation furnace is cooled, the cooled circulating gas is heated and the heated circulating gas is returned to the dry distillation furnace. SOLUTION: The apparatus for circulating the gas includes a circulation line 19 for returning the gas which is generated by dry distillation and discharged from the dry distillation furnace 1, to the dry distillation furnace 1 as the circulating gas. A gas treatment unit 21, a gas tank 23 and a gas heating unit 25 are arranged on the circulation line 19 in this order from the upstream side thereof. The gas treatment unit 21 is used for removing tar from the circulating gas discharged from the dry distillation furnace and cooling the circulating gas. The gas tank 23 is disposed at such a position that the outer wall of the gas tank is exposed to the open air, and is used for accumulating the circulating gas discharged from the gas treatment unit 21 to indirectly cool the circulating gas by the open air. The gas heating unit 25 is used for heating the circulating gas discharged from the gas tank 23 and returning the heated circulating gas to the dry distillation furnace 1.
