    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of stably outputting a high-quality image by controlling the speed of a sheet conveyance belt considering influence of a toner image included on a transfer part in forming an image.SOLUTION: A representative constitution of an image forming apparatus related to the present invention includes an intermediate transfer belt 8 for carrying a toner image, and a secondary transfer belt 21 which carries a sheet and is movable. The image forming apparatus changes a relative speed between the intermediate transfer belt 8 and the secondary transfer belt 21, forms multiple calibration patterns consisted of toner images, on the intermediate transfer belt 8 at respective multiple different relative speeds, transfers the multiple calibration patterns on a sheet, and controls the speeds of the intermediate transfer belt 8 and the secondary transfer belt 21 so that the relative speed therebetween is a speed that formed an optimal calibration pattern among the multiple calibration patterns.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that in the conventional belt driving units a load is generated by sliding friction between a roller outer surface and a belt surface when a roller shaft displacement member displaces, and a contact stress is generated on the periphery part of an endless belt, which makes the lifetime of the endless belt shorter.SOLUTION: A tension roller 43 is divided into multiple segmented rollers from 43-1 to 43-5 in the axial direction in such a manner that each segmented roller 43-1 - 43-5 can individually turn. Thus, the tilt loading of the tension roller 43 caused by friction between the surface of the tension roller 43 and the inner peripheral surface of the intermediate transfer belt 41 is mitigated, which allows smooth movement of the tension roller 43. As a result, the effect that contract stress generated between the peripheral part of the intermediate transfer belt 41 and the side face of a pulley 56 is reduced is obtained and the extension of the lifetime of a belt unit 40, or an endless transfer belt, is expected.
