    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for regenerating a forming mold for an optical element, capable of removing a metal cut and processed layer formed on a transfer surface of the forming mold without damaging the base material of the forming mold, and also to provide the forming mold for optical element.
      SOLUTION: The forming mold 1, made of a super hard base material, having the transfer surface on which a covering layer 2 comprising the metal cutting and processing layer, an intermediate layer, and a surface layer is formed, is put into a heating furnace 3 with the transfer surface turning downward. The forming mold is heated at a temperature, which is not lower than the melting point of the metal cutting and processing layer but lower than the softening point of the super hard base material. Since the metal cutting and processing layer is liquefied and is flowed down, the metal cutting and processing layer, the intermediate layer, and the surface layer are removed from the super hard base material 1. A metal layer, having a melting point higher than the forming temperature of a melting point mold but lower than the melting point of the metal cutting and processing layer, may be formed between the super hard base material 1 and the metal cutting and processing layer.
