摘要： PURPOSE:To obtain the titled optical fiber having the high dimensional precision by inserting a specified quartz rod for a core into plural pieces of holes in the axial direction which are perforated in the starting quartz rod being made to a cladding, heating it so as to be made to one body and wire-drawing it. CONSTITUTION:Plural pieces of holes 2 are perforated in a fluorine-contg. starting quartz rod (e.g. SiO2-F) 1 being made to a cladding in the axial direction with a high frequency boring machine or the like, and the glass rods (e.g. SiO2) 3 for a core having the refractive index and the softening temp. higher than the glass 1 are inserted into this holes 2. Then this is heated with a heat source 5 and made to one body to form a preform 4. The titled optical fiber is obtained by heating this preform 4 and wire-drawing it.

摘要： PURPOSE:To manufacture a porous glass base material of high quality in a high yield of starting material when a base material for an optical fiber is manufactured by a vapor axial deposition method using two or more burners, by placing the burners except the burner closest to the center of pulling at a specified angle each. CONSTITUTION:A starting member is rotated, and while slowly pulling up the member, SiCl4 as a gaseous starting material for glass, GeCl4 as a gaseous starting material for a dopant, an inert carrier gas such as He, H2 and O2 for combustion are fed from plural burners 1, 2 to deposit and form a porous base material for an optical fiber on the surface of the starting member by hydrolysis in a flame. At this time, the burners 2 except the burner 1 closest to the center of pulling of the starting member are placed at 50-70 deg. angle theta to the perpendicular direction. A base material for an optical fiber can be formed without cracking in a high yield of gaseous starting material.

摘要： PURPOSE:To enable a large flow rate of gaseous raw materials to feed stably to a reaction vessel by conducting out a pipeline by which the gaseous mixture is fed to the reaction vessel from a bubbler vessel, from the space of the upper part of liquid incorporated in the bubbler vessel. CONSTITUTION:After the gaseous raw material is elevated till the upper end R of a winding tube 9 of the upper part of a condenser, it is descended along the downward winding tube 9 and the constant gas which is directed towards the upper part by means of the two-branched pipe of lower end Q of the winding tube is entered into a pipeline 11, passed through the condenser and communicated to a pipeline 8 in the outlet S of the condenser to be fed to a reaction bessel. The condenser 7 is maintained at constant temp. with the circulating hot water and the gaseous mixture which has been passed through the condenser 7 to the lower part from the upper part is cooled till the temp. of the condenser and the gaseous raw material contained in the gaseous mixture becomes vapor at the temp. of the condenser. In this process, the excess gaseous raw material is condensated in the pipeline incorporated in the condenser and returned into a bubbler vessel 1 along the pipeline.

摘要： PURPOSE:To obtain an optical fiber base material of low water content and low transmission loss by filling a metal halide and oxygen gas into a pipe to remove water through heat replacement prior to a compacting process in production of the base material by an internally adhering CVD method. CONSTITUTION:SiCl4, BBr3, POCl3, O2, etc. are introduced into a quartz pipe and heated to form a clad layer, and a core layer is deposited on the inside of the clad layer using SiCl4, GeCl4, POCl3, etc. Prior to a compacting process a metal halide such as SiCl4, GeCl4, BCl3 or PCl5 and oxygen gas are filled into the pipe to remove water contained in the pipe according to the reaction of equation I. The pipe is then heated to form a chlorine gas atmosphere according to the reaction of equation II, and trace amts. of water are removed by replacement with chlorine. Thereafter, the compacting process is carried out to obtain an optical fiber base material of low water content. Water is a cause for a transmission loss.

摘要： PURPOSE:After introduction of a gas of low water content for a prescribed time, the gases of starting materials are introduced into a quartz pipe, the reactor for synthesizing glass, thus making title glass fiber that is reduced in absorption caused by OH groups with good reproducibility. CONSTITUTION:A dried gas is sent from device for feeding dried gas 6 into quartz pipe 4 in which the dried gas is prepared by preheating a gas to reduce the water content or by heating the quartz pipe 4 with a burner to reduce the water content. The introduction of the dried gas is continued for more than 1 hr, preferably more than 3 hr. Then, the liquids of starting materials are gasified in bubblers 1, 2, and 3, which are used in the CVD process, and sent through pipes into quartz pipe 4, whereby fibers with low OH content, thus having absorption in the range from 0- 0.2 dB/km, are produced with good reproducibility.
