摘要： PURPOSE:To obtain a polyester resin having a low glass transition point and desirable for a coating material sufficient in flexibility and low-temperature resistance by mixing a polyalcohol component containing trimethylolhepthane of a specified structure or its esterifiable derivative with a polybasic acid component. CONSTITUTION:A polyester comprising a polybasic acid component and a polyalcohol component, wherein the polyalcohol component comprises 0.5-100mol% trimethylolheptane which is terminated with a primary alcohol and in which at least one pair of hydroxyl groups are separated by an 8C or longer carbon chain or its esterifiable derivative and 99.5-0mol% another polyalcohol or its esterifiable derivative, and wherein at least 50% of the functional groups of the polyester terminals are hydroxyl groups. Thus a polyester resin having sufficient flexibility and low-temperature resistance and a high curing rate and being easily and completely curable can be obtained, and it can give an excellent coating material.

In the case where the rate of 1,9- nonanediol and / or 2-methyl-1,8-octanediol is less than 10mol% of polyol component, a film formed by polyester resin becomes hard, and when where the mixed rate of a curing agent is less, a film with excellent mold processing property can not be obtained. And, in the case where it exceeds 80mol% of polyol component, a film having a sufficient hardness can not be obtained even if the blending rate of a curing agent is increased in its quantity.
