摘要： PURPOSE:To produce a hard film improved in adhesion with a base metal as well as oxidation resistance and wear resistance, in a hard film useful as the surface coating material for a working tool, by ion-implanting the the surface of the TiN film with Al. CONSTITUTION:The surface of a TiN film is ion-implanted with Al to form a multiple nitride layer of Ti and Al on the surface layer part of the TiN is film. The amt. of Al to be implanted is preferably regulated to 5X10 to 5X10 ions/cm . Furthermore, the film thickness is preferably regulated to >=0.1mum. Thus, its oxidation starting temp. can be increased more than that not only of the conventional TiN film but also of the conventional (Ti, Al)N film, and its hardness can also be increased. Moreover, since, in these films, the characteristics of good adhesion of the TiN film of its own are not deteriorated, the problem of peeling is neither produced.

By increasing the ratio of ion/atom at the time of the dinamic ion mixing treatment, the outer direction transporting phenomenon of the matrix atoms in which the matrix atoms are moved to the side of the vacuum-deposited film is made to occur, and a stable modified layer having a gradient structure gradually changed from the base material to the film compsn. and free from the generation of peeling is formed, by which a surface effect member stably excellent in surface hardness and wear resistance can be obtd.
