摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple structured optical connector which prevents a knob and a housing from being removed, by reinforcing them. SOLUTION: In this optical connector, a knob 7 which is installed in a plug frame 1 which has a ferrule in its shaft center such that the knob can axially slide and a housing 11 which had a plug engaging piece 13 projected into a central plug insertion hole 12 are fixed each other by engaging means. One end of the connector is formed in a connector plug (A), and another end is formed in a connector joint (B). The knob 7 and the circumference of the housing 11 are covered and pressure bonded by metal plates 17, 18.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a ferrule having sufficiently usable strength while quartz glass is used as a material by melting and drawing a quartz glass preform, then rapidly cooling the material, thereby imparting a stress thereon. SOLUTION: A quartz glass tube 1 as the quartz glass preform is put perpendicularly into a heating furnace 11 and is melted and drawn to a small diameter. An endless tracked vehicle 14 takes off the quartz glass capillary obtd. by reducing the diameter of the tube in the heating furnace 1. The capillary 2 emerging from the heating furnace 11 is introduced into a water cooling pot 11 while the surface temp. thereof is high and is passed into cooling water, by which the capillary is rapidly cooled. The capillary 2 is internally and gradually cooled and shrunk after the passage through the cooling pot 12, by which a compressive strain is generated on the surface of the capillary 2. The capillary 2 is thereafter introduced into a wiping device 13 to remove the moisture sticking to the surface. This capillary is cut to the length of the prescribed ferrule 3 by a cutter.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain highly transparent glass capable of preventing crystallization even when Co is doped in high concentration by heat-treating a preform made of quartz-based porous glass to which CoO is added under He atmosphere containing SiF4 and vitrifying the preform. SOLUTION: A graded index type soot-like preform is produced on a quartz rod, e.g. by flame hydrolysis method and the preform is temporally sintered so as to become a specified bulk density by heating the preform by an electric oven. The preform is immersed in a methanol solution of CoCl2 .6H2 O and allowed to stand. Then, the preform is taken out and naturally dried. The treated preform is heat-treated in an atmosphere in which Cl2 and He gas is made to flow. Then, further, the preform 5 is retained in the electric oven while rotating the preform 5 in the arrow direction and heated while making SiF4 and He gas to flow to the electric oven. Thereby, a reaction represented by the figure is carried out and CoO is decreased and converted to CoF2 to almost prevent crystallization of glass and further, the preform is heat-treated to vitrify the preform.

Further, the ratio of the deviation of the optical axis in the gap of a ferrule 2 from the optical fiber axis is small and the connection loss is reduced. Consequently, the reflected return light from the fiber end surface 3 when an optical element and an optical fiber 1 are connected or when optical fibers 1 are connected mutually is made small and the complexity of assembling operation is evaded.
