    • PURPOSE:To obtain an optical connector which can be assembled in a short time by providing an engaging member with a clamping part which engages an adapter elastically and further forming an energizing member which energizes a fiber array member toward a connection surface. CONSTITUTION:A connector 1 is inserted into one entrance part 12a of the adapter 12 until the tip 7b of a main body abuts on a side surface 13c of a butt block 13 and when the pressing of an operation part 11a is released, the operation part 11a fit a clamping part 11b in a clamping groove 12b in engagement by the elasticity of the member 11 to clamp the connector 1 to the adapter 12. When the connector 1 is inserted into both entrance parts 12a and 12b of the adapter 12, a pressing force in a direction B operates on a member 12 through the connection surface 2b to move in the direction B in the main body 7 against the elasticity of a pawl 11c. Then, the member 2 is pressed by a prescribed pressure in a direction A as a results of the reaction of the pawl 11c to connect optical fiber end surfaces of connection surfaces 2b of respective connector 1 mutually under a specific contacting pressure.

    • PURPOSE:To reduce connection loss as compared with an error in an end-surface gap, by making the connection end surface of an optical fiber into a plane end surface slanting at a desired angle to an optical axis, and forming a wedge- shaped gap between both end surface. CONSTITUTION:A couple of optical fibers 3 and 3' to be connected are held and fixed on the same axial line by collars 5 and 5', a sleeve 7 having screws 7a and 7a' at external circumferences of both end parts, and hollow nuts 9 and 9' having internal screws 9a and 9a'. Further, the circumferential relative positions of the butt end surfaces 5a and 5a' of the collars 5 and 5' are held constant to the sleeve 7 with positioning keys 11 and 11. The opposite end surfaces 3a and 3a' of the optical fibers 3 and 3' are made into plane end surfaces having a prescribed angle phi to optical axes together with the end surfaces 5a and 5a' of the collars, and a wedge-shaped gap is provided between the opposite end surfaces. Consequently, interference fringes are formed on the fiber end surfaces and the width of variation in the quantity of transmitted light with the end surface gap is reduced.

    • PURPOSE:To reduce the effect of working accuracy, facilitate working and achieve the improvement in coupling efficiency by positioning optical fibers in two ways through intermeshing of the V-grooves and guide pins disposed in two vertical and lateral directions, aligning the same on one straight line and connecting the same. CONSTITUTION:With a plug 1, the fiber holder 5 having an optical fiber 7 in the internal center of its main body 3 is fixed by screws 6. The fiber holder 5 comprises opposing two blocks 14a, 14b, sandwiching spacers 15a, 15b of approximately the same thickness as that of the optical fiber 7 between these, bonding and positioning the fiber 7 in the center between these, forming a V groove 16 in one direction on the end faces of the blocks 14a, 14b and forming a V groove 17 in the direction orthogonal to the V groove 16 on the end faces of the spacers 15a, 15b as well. The V groove of the blocks 14a, 14b and the V groove of the spacers are integrated by means of bolts, etc., after which they are worked simultaneously with the same accuracy, thus they are made identical in pitch, etc. together with the accuracy. Thereby, the fibers may be butted and connected on one straight line with high accuracy.

    • PURPOSE:To connect optical fibers end to end without causing axial misalignment by providing a plurality of V-grooves at random on the sides of two main bodies contacting each other and transforming the axial misalignment when connecting optical fibers into deviation of sectional gap through meshing of the V-grooves. CONSTITUTION:Plural optical fibers 10 are inserted into a main body 9 which is movably mounted by a spring 8 in the inside of one housing 7 and the end thereof. The optical fibers 10 are positioned and inserted into V-grooves 14, being accommodated in a large quantity at equal intervals in the horizontal and vertical directions. In end face 9' of the contacting side of the main body 9 are provided V- grooves 3, 4 in grid form in the horizontal and vertical directions. On the side of the other housing 15, another main body 16 is provided in its inside and the end, and plural optical fibers 17 are inserted into this main body 16. Similarly, V-grooves are provided in grid form in the contacting side face 16' of the main body 16. When the housings 7, 15 are integrally joined end to end, the end faces 9', 16' of the main bodies 9, 16 abut against each other, so that plural V-grooves 3, 4 are meshed with each other. Thus, the optical fibers 10, 17 are connected in exact axial alignment in both lateral and vertical directions.

    • PURPOSE:To provide an optical coupler having high degree of optical coupling between a semiconductor laser and an optical fiber and easy to adjust the oblique angle of a light beam by inclining the entrance end face of the optical fiber by an oblique angle previously specified with respect to the optical axis of the optical fiber. CONSTITUTION:This device is provided with a second lens 3 converging a parallel beam transmitted from a first lens 2 on the entrance end face 51 of an optical fiber 50, an optical isolator 10 and a wedge prism 20 arranged on the optical path formed by the lenses 2, 3. The entrance end face 51 is inclined by a predetermined oblique angle to the optical axis of the optical fiber 50 and, by representing the oblique angle by phi, the refractive index of the core of the optical fiber 50 by eta and the deflection angle of a prism 20 by theta, the relation: eta.sintheta=sin(phi+theta) is satisfied. Consequently, by fixing the optical isolator 10 and the prism 20 and only moving/adjusting the fiber 50 in the direction in which the optical axis of the optical fiber 50 is deviated from the optical axis of the isolator 10, the degree of optical coupling becomes maximum.

    • PURPOSE:To reduce the replacing frequency of a thermoelectric cooler for optical semiconductor module used as a light source for optical communication so as to reduce the cost of the cooler by improving the reliability of the cooler. CONSTITUTION:Peltier elements 10 are arranged electrically in series and by- pass circuits 21a and 21b and 22a and 22b are arranged in parallel with each two of the elements 10. Consequently, even when one of the elements 10 is disconnected at a soldered part, etc., the electric current to the element 10 is not discontinued, but flows through the circuits 21 and 21b or 22a and 22b. Therefore, the other elements 10 operate normally. As a result, this cooler 1 can maintain its function as a temperature controller and its reliability is improved. In addition, the occurrence of characteristic deterioration in an optical semiconductor module is reduced. Moreover, the replacing frequency of the cooler 1 can be reduced and the cost of the cooler 1 can be reduced accordingly.

    • PURPOSE:To absorb the polarization plane deviation between a semiconductor laser and a polarizer by adjusting a polarization plane maintaining optical fiber by fixing the relative positions of the semiconductor laser and polarizer and rotating and adjusting the polarization plane maintaining optical fiber in this state. CONSTITUTION:This laser device is equipped with a package 1 which has the polarizer 3, having a plane of polarization matching a plane of polarization when output light is laser-emitted beam, installed fixedly at the window part for the output light of the semiconductor laser 2 and an optical system 1 which converges the output light from the polarizer 3 on the polarization plane maintaining optical fiber 5. Then when the beam which is outputted from the semiconductor laser 2 through the polarizer 3 is natural emitted beam the angle of rotation of the optical fiber 5 is so adjusted that the natural emitted beam passes through the optical fiber 5 at a maximum polarized light extinction ratio. Namely, the relative positions of the semiconductor laser 2 and polarizer 3 are invariably constant, so even if the planes of polarization of the both deviate from each other, this deviation can be absorbed by adjusting the axis of rotation of the optical fiber to obtain the optimum polarized light extinction ratio.
