    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a combustion apparatus with which the temperature of a catalyst is made to reach quickly the point the catalyst is activated and generation of NOx can be controlled. SOLUTION: A combustion part 20 comprises a catalyst combustion part 3 and is provided with a heating means 27 which heats the catalyst combustion part 3 from the upstream side. The excess air ratio of the upstream side of the catalyst combustion part 3 is set to be raised if the temperature of the catalyst combustion part 3 reaches the predetermined value. A secondary combustion part 4 is provided between the catalyst combustion part 3 and a heat exchanging part 5. A fuel supply means 28 is provided between the catalyst combustion part 3 and the secondary combustion part 4. A first temperature detecting means 32 to detect the temperature of the catalyst combustion part 3 and a second temperature detecting means 33 to detect the temperature of the secondary combustion part 4 are provided. The excess air ratio of the air-fuel mixture supplied to the heating means 27 is contemplated to be controlled based on temperature information detected by the first temperature detecting means 32.
