    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform an efficient dehydration in a simple structure by attachably and detachably locking the upper opening of a tank body for housing sediment to be dehydrated with a sheet body, providing a dehydration pipe having a plurality of holes within the tank, and connecting a negative pressure source to the dehydration pipe to generate a negative pressure in the dehydration pipe. SOLUTION: A flexible vinyl sheet 3 having airtightness to some degree is put on the upper opening 7 of a steel tank 2, and its circumference is fixed to the tank 2 attachably and detachably by use of, for example, an adhesive tape. A plurality of dehydration pipes 4 having a number of holes 4a allowing the communication between the inside and outside such as well point are fixed into the tank 2 by brackets, and one-side ends thereof are connected to external connection hoses 8 through the tank 2. Sponge-like filters 9, for example, are installed to the outside surfaces of the dehydration pipes 4. Sediment D to be dehydrated is put into the tank 2 through the opening 7, the opening 7 is sealed by the sheet 3, and each dehydration pipe 4 is laid in negative pressure by a pump 5 to dehydrate the sediment D.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ground improving method capable of efficiently discharging the water and air of a clay layer as a subject to ground improvement without giving an adverse effect to a peripheral area for the soft ground containing a stratum forming a water-permeable layer. SOLUTION: In this ground improving method for the soft ground 1 containing a sand layer 3 forming a water-permeable layer, a water- nonpermeable material 4 is placed to a portion located at the sand layer 3, and a drain material 4 fitted with a water-nonpermeable member or coated with a water-nonpermeable liquid is placed in the soft ground 1. Water and air 8 are discharged from a soft clay layer 2 only, not from the sand layer 3, adverse effects such as well exhaustion and ground subsidence are not given to a peripheral area without providing a water stop wall in a ground improvement area, the water and air of a clay layer as a subject to ground improvement can be efficiently discharged, and the soft ground can be quickly improved in a short period.
