摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To limit a registration period of a wireless communication device (WCD) operating in a wireless network, on the basis of network quality.SOLUTION: The WCD performs registration to a network according to a signaling protocol, such as session initiation protocol (SIP). The WCD determines (75) network quality, and adjusts (79) a registration timer on the basis of the determined network quality. When the network quality is poor, for example, the WCD reduces the length of the registration timer. By adjusting the registration timer to a shorter length to register (81) when the network quality is degraded, stale registrations for out-of-coverage WCDs can be expired more quickly, and cleared more quickly. Consequently, the amount of required resources devoted to stale registrations can be reduced. If the WCD attempts to retain network coverage, it can be maintained by sending a new registration request.

When an item such as an instant message is to be deleted, a SIP REFER message is transmitted from a user device to delete the item from the user account, with the message including a unique identifier for the item. In response to the transmitted request, an SIP INVITE session is established between a virtual agent and a network-based deleted items location. After the SIP INVITE session is established, the item is transferred from the user account to the network-based deleted items location and is deleted from the user account.

摘要： A technique for authenticating a user to a server using SIP messages includes forwarding an SIP request from the user agent to the server. The server then forwards a request for authentication to the user agent in response to the invite request, the request for authentication including information that the authentication will be performed using a UMTS AKA mechanism. The user agent then forwards and authentication response to the server in accordance with the UMTS AKA mechanism and the server then performs the appropriate actions to perform an invoked SIP procedure in response to the SIP request. The SIP request may include any standardized SIP request including an SIP INVITE request or an SIP REGISTER request.
