    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a radiation-curable primary coating composition for optical fibers having a low equilibrant modulus of elasticity and a sufficiently high cavitation resistance.SOLUTION: The provided radiation-curable primary coating composition comprises 20-98 wt.% of at least one type of urethane (meth)acrylate oligomer having a molecular weight of at least 1000 and including: (meth)acrylate groups; urethane groups; and a skeleton derived not only from a polyol reacted with a polyisocyanate but also from a hydroxyl group-containing (meth)acrylate, 10-70 wt.% of at least one type of reactive diluent selected from among polymerizable monofunctional vinyl monomers and polymerizable polyfunctional vinyl monomers, 0.1-20 wt.% of at least one type of photopolymerization initiator for initiating a radical polymerizing reaction, 0-5 wt.% of additives, and 0.6-10 vol.% of organic particles, yields a post-cure equilibrant modulus of elasticity of 1.5 MPa or below, and yields, at a temporal stage where the tenth cavity has emerged, a cavitation resistance (σ) of at least approximately 1.1 MPa.
