    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the shut-off performance of a vacuum valve by enabling the valve to generate flux density distribution that makes an arc uniform, with a simple constitution, even when the distance between electrodes is large.
      SOLUTION: This vacuum valve, when put into shut-off action, causes an accident current or load current to flow from a current-carrying shaft 1 of one electrode into the contactor of the other electrode via a coil arm 2a, a coil part 2b, a current-carrying pin 3, and a contactor. This inflow current flows out to the current-carrying shaft 1 via the contactor, the current-carrying pin 3, the coil part 2b, and the coil arm 2a, in which case an axial magnetic field is produced between the contactors by the current flowing in the coil 2b and magnetic flux produced by the current flowing in the current-carrying pin 3 is deflected by a first magnetic substance 5a, producing an axial magnetic field between the contactors. This magnetic field is in a direction opposite to a coil-induced magnetic field, at the centers of the electrodes and in the same direction as the coil-induced magnetic field, at the ends of the electrodes. Thus, a flux density distribution, in which the magnetic flux density is low at the center portion and high around the centers of the electrodes, can be obtained.
