A displacement part 9 (the active part 6) is vibrated in the directions shown by an arrow A and the part 5 is jointed to the base 4 at the part 4a.

    • PURPOSE:To form an appropriate piezoelectric element array to be arranged in an ink tank and allow generation of ink droplets with an adequate scattering capability even at low voltage by covering the peripheral surface of a piezoelectric element with an elastic resin, also covering the free end with an elastic member, and arranging a nozzle plate with a fixed distance from the elastic member through a partition plate. CONSTITUTION:A printing head consists of piezoelectric elements 12, part of each element being fixed to a substrate 14 and solidified with injected elastic resin 10 and an elastic member 16 which covers a free end the elastic resin 10. An independent cable 76 is connected to an external conductive layer 60 to which one electrode of the piezoelectric element 12 is connected, while a common lead member is connected to an external conductive layer 62 to which the other electrode is connected. If an electric signal is applied to an area between the independent cable 76 and the common lead member, piezoelectric materials 34, 34, 34... between electrodes become elongated, and the displacements of piezoelectric materials of each layer are added together to allow displacement of the free end 12a in 'X' direction. A voltage to be applied to an area between electrodes 30, 32 is naturally at a low level as each piezoelectric material layer is extremely thin.

    • PURPOSE:To provide an ink reservoir in a sufficiently large size without creating a hindrance to the arrangement of nozzles and a number of the nozzles in a high density by locating the ink reservoir on the opposite side of a pressure producing member from the nozzle. CONSTITUTION:A pressure producing member 100 consists of a piezoelectric body 10 above a nozzle 20, an elastic vibrating body 12 and a common electrode 14. An ink supply opening 22 is provided on an intersecting point 23 of an ink supply passage. An ink reservoir 30 for holding the ink to be supplied to the nozzle 20 is provided on the opposite side of the piezoelectric body 10 from the nozzle, leading to the nozzle 20 through the ink supply opening 22 and the ink supply passage 21. Since the ink reservoir 30 is located on the opposite side of the pressure producing member 100 from the nozzle 20, the ink reservoir 30 can be provided in a sufficiently large size without creating a hindrance to the arrangement of the nozzles 20.

    • PURPOSE:To ensure the enough projection speed and a projection amount of ink drops even when nozzles are arranged in high density and to improve frequency response and projection stability by a method wherein pressure generating members are mounted such that the mounting directions thereof are changed little by little. CONSTITUTION:Pressure generating members 30 are displaced at intervals of 50mum sixteen by sixteen like nozzles 21 and 32 pressure generating members in total are arranged in a zigzagging state. An interval between the nozzles is 0.21mm. Further, since the mounting directions of the pressure generating members 30 are changed little by little, the width of the mounting part of the pressure generating member is 0.30mm, the width of the part, near the nozzle, of the pressure generating member is 0.15mm, and a ratio between the width of the mounting part of the pressure generat ing member and the width of the part, near the nozzle, of the pressure generating member is 2 to 1. Thereby, the tip of the pressure generating member is tapered off toward the end without reducing a natural period so that identical displacement is provided, a distance between the nozzles can be reduced along with the taper-off of the pressure generating member, and density can be increased to a high value. Further, an enough power can be generated by means of low energy.

A nozzle 10 is formed on the bottom of an elliptically recessed part 17 provided in a recessed groove part 16. The pressure generation member 12 is a beam-form member composed of the elastic material 13 and the piezoelectric material 14 having a part less than half in width than the elastic material 13. In this manner, the displacement of the pressure generation member 12 can be efficiently obtained. An ink jet head having superior frequency response and jetting stability as well as ensuring adequate ink drop jetting speed and amount can be obtained.
