The mass ratio (A/B) of the polyoxypropylene polyamine (A) to the amide-amine compound (B) is 1/99 to 30/70. The total amine value is 100 to 200 mgKOH/g.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an additive for paper which is capable of simultaneously imparting sufficient sizability and good flexibility to the paper in good valance while suppressing deterioration in interlaminar strength.SOLUTION: The additive for the paper comprises: an amide-amine compound (a) that is obtained by reacting 1 mol of a polyamine mixture comprising 25-60 mol% of a compound A represented by the formula (1) and 40-75 mol% of a compound B represented by the formula (2), with 2-5 mol of a 12-24C aliphatic monocarboxylic acid, and has an amine value of 40-220 mgKOH/g; and a polyoxy alkylene polyamine (b) represented by the formula (3). The additive for the paper contains 5-40 pts.mass of the polyoxy alkylene polyamine (b) with respect to 100 pts.mass of the amide-amine compound (a).

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a highly pure product by cyanoethylating a polyoxyalkylene compound by reaction with a specified amount of acrylonitrile in the presence of an alkali catalyst and water, adjusting the product of cyanoethylation to a specified pH, reducing the product with hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst, and treating the obtained product with an adsorbent. SOLUTION: A polyoxyalkylene compound represented by formula I is cyanoethylated by reaction with 20-500 equivalents, per equivalent of the hydroxyl groups, of acrylonitrile at 0-20 deg.C in the presence of an alkali catalyst such as KOH and water.
