摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem of service life characteristic that concentration of electrical potential to a part of a catalyst layer is generated by the proton conductive high molecular electrolyte added to the catalyst in order to enlarge a reaction site and that the high molecular electrolyte is deteriorated and decomposed to lower the battery voltage characteristic. SOLUTION: Conductive carbon not carrying platinum is added to a current catalyst layer. Quantity of the conductive carbon not carrying a catalyst metal is set at 5-50 wt.% in relation to the conductive carbon carrying the catalyst metal. With this composition, concentration of electrical potential can be reduced, and a high molecular electrolyte type fuel cell having excellent service life characteristic can be obtained.

The gasket has a rib, positioned between a manifold hole of gas supplied to the other electrode and one electrode on one electrode side surface, and the rib continues integrally with the thermal cross-linking fluid bed, to thereby prevent a cross leak of fuel gas and oxidizing agent gas.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve such a problem that a tightening mechanism in an end plate and a tightening rod is likely to be prolonged in usual high molecular electrolyte fuel cell, and to provide a compact sized and light-weight fuel cell stack. Some tightening mechanism which is comparatively compact in size and light in weight without using a thick end plate or a tightening rod has been proposed, however, reliability of such tightening mechanism against shock and vibration has not yet been sufficient. SOLUTION: Cylindrical connection parts are respectively provided at an end portion of a metallic tightening band and at an assist plate so that both are connected by a circular rod like metallic pin having high strength and an E-ring. A tightening pressure is applied to a stacked fuel cell through the end plate with to a dish spring arranged on the assist plate and a bolt. In such a tightening manner, a high molecular electrolyte fuel cell which is compact, light, and high in reliability against shock and vibration can be obtained.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrain the output degradation due to contact resistance in a metal contact of a battery or the like over a long period at a low cost by arranging a conductive contact point having corrosion resistance at least at a part of a conductive gas passage plate abutting on a gas diffusion electrode. SOLUTION: A conductive contact point is not a continuous film but preferably formed into a discontinuous island-like shape, and thereby, a material constituting a protective film can be saved and a film forming time can be reduced. Specifically, a low-conductivity film such as an oxide film formed on the surface of a metallic conductive gas passage plate during a normal storage condition is previously removed in order to secure the conductivity of the protective film and enhance the durability thereof and thereafter, the protective film is formed. At that time, the island-like protective film is formed by adjusting the film forming time and by optimizing the temperature of the gas passage plate. Additionally, it is recommended that the formation of another protective of an organic substance and an oxidation treatment are carried out to the surface of the conductive gas passage plate not covered with the protective film.

SOLUTION: This fuel cell comprises an electrode electrolyte joined body having a lamination of a hydrogen ion conductive solid polymer electrolyte film, a pair of electrodes having a catalytic reaction layer with the hydrogen ion conductive solid polymer electrolyte film sandwiched therebetween, and a pair of diffusion layers with the electrodes sandwiched therebetween. In this case, the electrode comprises at least a catalyst body with catalyst particles supported on a hydrophilic carbonaceous material, a hydrogen ion conductive polymer electrolyte, and a repellent carbonaceous material.
