    • PURPOSE:To increase the slug resistance property by adding the specified quantity of a magnesia-chrominum based raw material into an alumina-carbon base refractory. CONSTITUTION:This refractory incorporates 3-70wt.% of the magnesia-chrominum based raw material in the refractory blended with the alumina based raw material and the carbon base raw material. Generally, the magnesia-chrominum based raw material has the chemical formula expressed by Mg(Fe)>>[Al,Fe,Cr2O3]O. This compound forms easily a solid solution with alumina and has the residual linear expanding property accompanying 5-10% of the volume expansion. Thus, a crack at a joint at the time of cooling the furnace is hardly produced in the wall of the furnace consisting of piled bricks, and the falling of the bricks caused by the crack at the joint and also the infiltration of the molten iron and steel into the joining parts are avoided, thus the occurrence of unexpected trouble caused by the abnormal damage of the metallurgical furnace caused by the refractory is prevented. When the adding quantity of the magnesia-chrominum based raw material is base than a lower limit, the improvement of the corrosion resistance and the effect on the increase in the residual linear expansion are insufficient and in the case of exceeding an upper limit, the strength after utilizing for a long period is reduced.

    • PURPOSE:To easily and accurately supervise erosion rate in a refractory wall and to restrain the erosion by fitting flow rate detectors and temp. detectors and detecting characteristic variations of the flow rate and the temp., etc., of gas for cooling the refractory wall. CONSTITUTION:Air of the gas for cooling is caused to flow in piping 5 embedded in the refractory wall 1 for molten iron tapping trough through inlet pipe 6, and the temp. at surface side of the refractory wall 1 can be cooled at about 50-100 deg.C, and the erosion rate of refractory wall 1 exposed to the molten iron can be made to little and the durability is improved. Further, the gas for cooling flowing in the piping 5 is heated through the refractor wall 1 and the characteristic values of the gas for cooling at inlet pipe 6 side and discharge pipe 7 side of the piping 5 can be detected with the temp. detectors 8, 9, pressure detectors 10, 11 and flow rate detectors 12, 13, respectively, and data processing can be executed to the detected data through a thermometer 14, pressure gage 15 and flow rate gage 16 with a computer 17, and the erosion rate of refractory wall 1 and abnormal condition of piping 5 can be supervised.
