    • PURPOSE:To form a sprayed deposit with superior adhesive strength by irradiating the surface of a base material with high-energy beam in a reduced-pressure nonoxidizing-gas atmosphere to form the surface part of the base material into molten state and simultaneously spraying a thermal spraying material in a molten state in the form of a jet. CONSTITUTION:The inside of a treatment chamber 4 to which a base material 1 is provided is regulated to an atmosphere of reduced-pressure nonoxidizing gas 7 by means of a nonoxidizing gas-feeding hole 6 and a pressure-reducing hole 5. Subsequently, the surface of the base material 1 is irradiated with a high-energy beam 9 from a high-energy beam-producing device 8 so as to be formed into a molten state 1', and, directly after or simultaneously with the above high-energy beam 9 irradiation, a jet 11 of thermal spraying material previously formed into molten or semimolten state is sprayed on the part of the above molten state 1' by means of a thermal spray gun 10. The above operation is performed continuously, and the base material 1 is moved at the prescribed velocity. By this method, a sprayed deposit 2 having an intermediate layer 3 having a mixed structure consisting of the base material 1 and the jet 11 of thermal spraying material can be formed, by which the adhesive strength of the sprayed deposit 2 can be improved.

    • PURPOSE:To control the molten metal level between the horizontally and parallel disposed rolls of a continuous casting device for a thin sheet by detecting the meniscus width between said rolls and moving upward wand downward an immersion nozzle in accordance with the detected value. CONSTITUTION:The molten metal 4 supplied from a ladel 11 to a tundish 5 in the continuous casting device for the thin sheet is controlled by a weight meter 7, a signal processing unit 8 and a control device 9 of a slide valve 10 and the specified amt. of the molten metal is supplied from the tundish 5 through the immersion nozzle 6 into the space formed of the two horizontally and parallel disposed rolls 1, 1' and stationary gates 2, 2'. The molten metal is cooled and solidified and is drawn out as the ingot 3. The width of the meniscus M of the molten metal 4 between the rolls 1 and 1' is detected by a photodetector 14 attached with a lens 12 via a glass fiber 13 and the immersion nozzle 6 is moved upward or downward by the signal processing unit 8 and a controller 15 in accordance with the detected value thereof, by which the molten metal level between the rolls 1 and 1' is properly moved upward or downward and the ingot 3 having good quality is obtd.

    • PURPOSE:To control accurately and adequately the molten metal level between horizontally and parallel disposed rolls of a continuous casting device for a thin sheet and to improve the characteristic of an ingot by detecting the reaction of said rolls and moving upward and downward an immersion nozzle according to the detected value thereof. CONSTITUTION:This continuous casting device for the thin sheet produces the thin sheet by supplying the molten metal 4, which is supplied at a prescribed amt. by a weight meter 7, a signal processing unit 8, a control device 9 of a slide valve 10, etc. from a ladle 11 into a tundish 5, into the space formed of the two horizontal and parallel disposed rolls 1, 1' and stationary gates 2, 2' consisting of a refractory material, by means of the immersion nozzle 6, cooling and solidifying the molten metal according to the rotation of the rolls 1, 1' and drawing out the resulted ingot 4. The reaction of the rolls 1, 1' of the above- mentioned rolls 1, 1' is detected by load cells 12, 12' and the nozzle 6 is moved upward and downward by a signal processing unit 8 and a control device 13 in accordance with the detection signal thereof, by which the volume of the part of the nozzle 6 to be immersed into the molten metal 4 is changed and the molten metal level between the rolls 1 and 1' is properly moved upward or downward. The ingot 3 having good quality without over- solidification and under-solidification is thus obtd.

    • PURPOSE:To cast continuously and stably a thin plate having good quality by installing airtightly a vessel of the type which is open on the lower side in the top edge part of a tundish disposed therein with rolls having a large diameter and a small diameter, and supplying an inert gas therein. CONSTITUTION:The solidified shells 9 and 10 formed by cooling a molten metal 3 as a result of contact with the surfaces of water-cooled rolls 1 and 2 are united to one body at a point P (the nearest point between the rolls 1 and 2) by which a billet 7 is formed. An inert gas is blown from an inert gas supplying device 12 to a vessel 11 installed at the upper part of the tundish 4 to maintain an inert atmosphere in the vessel 11 and to apply pressure on the surface of the metal 3. When the pressure is applied on the surface of the metal 3 by the inert gas blown into the vessel, the pressure is applied on the inside surface side of the shells 9 and 10 as well as the solidified shells are brought into tight contact with the roll surfaces, by which the ruggedness of the solidified shells is decreased and a uniform thin plate is formed.
