    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cutting device cutting out a designated cutting area 174 from a medium 170.
      SOLUTION: The cutting device is equipped with: a conveying part 144 conveying a medium 170 in the conveying direction; a cutting carriage 130 reciprocatingly moving in the crossing direction to the conveying direction at the position opposed to the medium 170; a cutter 250 held on the cutting carriage 130 so as to advance to and retreat from the medium 170; a control part 100 cutting the medium 170 by operating the conveying part 144 and the cutting carriage 130; and direction sensors 190, 192 which read medium direction display figures 176, 178 displaying the medium direction information indicating the direction of the medium 170 by being recorded on the surface of the medium 170. The control part 100 detects the direction of the medium 170 charged, based on the medium direction information obtained from the direction sensors 190, 192, and generates the cutting line information relative to the medium 170 based on the image information given from the external part.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cutting device which cuts a laminated ceramic block with higher working efficiency than ever and at a correct location, and to provide a cutting method using the cutting device.
      SOLUTION: The laminated ceramic block 30 has a plurality of internal electrodes incorporated therein, and has cutting scheduled locations 29 arranged on an end face thereof, that are each in a predetermined locational relationship with respect to the internal electrode and provided for each cutting location. At the time of second or subsequent cutting operations of the laminated ceramic block 30, an image is picked up of the cutting scheduled location 29 present at a location where the next cutting operation takes place, by a CCD camera, and a distance L between an immediately preceding cut location and the following cutting location is calculated by image processing. Thereafter a table is moved through the distance L to carry out cutting.
