    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermionic cathode in which sufficient conductivity is obtained from the starting time at room temperature, and which is capable of efficient heating and thermionic emission and has a long life.
      SOLUTION: This cathode is provided with an encapsulated tube 9 in which discharge gas 11 is encapsulated, a fluorescent film 10 applied on the inner wall of the encapsulated tube 9, and a pair of discharge electrodes arranged at both ends of the encapsulated tube 9. The discharge electrodes are provided with insulating substrates 7a, and wide forbidden band semiconductor layers 1a on the insulating substrates 7a. Contact films 23a, 24a are formed on the surface of the wide forbidden band semiconductor layers 1a. Stem reeds 21a, 22a are connected to the wide forbidden band semiconductor layers 1a via the contact films 23a, 24a. The stem reeds 21a, 22a are respectively contacted to backsides of the insulating substrates 7a opposed to the contact films 23a, 24a, and pinch like a spring and retain from both sides a laminated structure composed of the insulating substrates 7a and the wide forbidden band semiconductor layers 1a.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fluorescent light-emitting tube such as a fluorescent display tube having a plurality of negative electrode filaments having the same thickness as each other and different lengths from each other, capable of adjusting the resistance values of the filaments by adjusting lengths (effective lengths of the filaments) of a part contributing to the electron emission without serially connecting the plurality of filaments. SOLUTION: Both ends of the filaments F1 to F7 are fixed to a pair of cathode wiring metal layers 131, 132, and short-circuit parts 141 to 147 having lengths different from each other in accordance with the lengths of the filaments are formed at middle parts of the filaments F1 to F7. The resistance values of the respective filaments F1 to F7 are adjusted so as to become almost the same as each other by making the lengths of the parts contributing to the electron emission (the effective lengths of the filaments) of filaments F1 to F7 approximately the same as each other by adjusting the short-circuiting lengths of the short-circuit parts 141 to 147.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a back surface grid type fluorescent display tube prevented from leakage light emission caused by an electric potential impressed on dampers for preventing vibration of a filament.
      SOLUTION: A filament F and dampers D1 to D4 are arranged between the back surface grids G1 to G4 and anode electrodes A1 to A4. The anode electrode A1 is lighted because a (+) potential is impressed on it and a (+) potential is also impressed on the back surface grid G1. At that time, the electric potential of the damper D1 does not hinder the lighting of the anode electrode A1 because a (+) potential corresponding to the back surface grid G1 is impressed on the damper D1. On the other hand, the anode electrode A3 is not lighted because a (-) potential is impressed on the back surface grid G3 though a (+) potential is impressed on the anode electrode A3. At that time, the leakage light emission is not generated at the anode electrode 3 due to the electric potential of the damper D3 because a (-) potential corresponding to the back surface grid D3 is impressed on the damper D3.
