    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tensioner for an endless transmission belt in which a plunger, a check valve, and a relief valve are arranged in a series so as to be reduced in size.
      SOLUTION: The check valve 94 and the relief valve 95 are arranged within the width of the plunger 60. When the pressure in the pressure oil exceeds a certain amount, a holding valve body 75 moves against a holding spring 76 to be in a valve open state, and the pressure oil flow as indicated by an arrow (1). A spherical second valve body 38 is pressed by pressure oil to be removed from a second valve seat section 47. As a result, the pressure oil flows as indicated by arrows (2), (3) reaching a high oil pressure chamber 88, and is stored there. Since the relief valve 95 is arranged within the width of the plunger 60, the tensioner can be miniaturized in a direction perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the relief valve 95.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chain tensioner which has a plunger easy to process, and is produced at low cost.
      SOLUTION: In the chain tensioner 1, the plunger 3 is slidably inserted in a cylinder 2. The cylinder 2 has an oil supply path 5 for introducing hydraulic oil into a pressure chamber 4 surrounded by the cylinder 2 and the plunger 3. A check valve 6 is provided at an end of the oil supply path 5 which is on the pressure chamber 4 side. A register ring 14 is received in a receiving groove 15 formed in the inner periphery at an open end of the cylinder 2. A plurality of engagement grooves 6 with which the register ring 14 engages are arranged at axial intervals in the outer periphery of the plunger 3. A return spring 13 for urging the plunger 3 in the direction in which the plunger 3 projects from the cylinder 2 is provided in the cylinder 2. A projection end of the plunger 3, which projection end projects from the cylinder 2, presses a chain. The plunger 3 is made up of a tube body 3a and a cap member 3b. The tube body 3a has in its outer periphery the engagement groove 16, and both ends opened. The cap member 3b is fitted in one end of the tube body 3a.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact chain tensioner having a relief valve returning an oil inside a pressure chamber to an engine room.
      SOLUTION: The chain tensioner has a flange portion 13 formed in a periphery of housing 11. A pressure chamber 15 is formed by inserting a plunger 14 for pushing the chain. The oil is accumulated inside the pressure chamber 15. A return spring 16 biasing the plunger 14 toward a direction of increasing the volume of the pressure chamber 15 is arranged. An oil supply passage 17 communicating the pressure chamber 15 to exterior is formed in the housing 11. A check valve 19 is arranged in the oil supply passage 17. A screw rod 27 having a male screw 28 formed in the outer periphery to be engaged with a female screw 26 formed in an inner periphery of pressure chamber side of the plunger 14 is incorporated inside the pressure chamber 15. The tensioner provided with a spring 41 biasing the screw rod 27 in a direction of separating the screw rod 27 from the plunger 14 is arranged. A relief passage 32 communicating the pressure chamber 15 to exterior is formed. The relief passage 32 has a relief valve 33 to be opened when a pressure inside the pressure chamber 15 exceeds a predetermined pressure.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chain tensioner with a relief valve, having a less number of components for developing a hydraulic damper effect right after starting an engine.
      SOLUTION: A return spring 14 is incorporated in a cylinder chamber 12 of a housing 11 for imparting outward protrusion to a plunger 13. The housing 11 has an oil supply passage 16 communicated with a pressure chamber 15 on the back of the plunger 13. The plunger 13 has a spring storage recessed portion 18 for the return spring 14, a valve storage recessed portion 19, and an oil drain passage 20. The relief valve 21 is incorporated in the valve storage recessed portion 19. A spring seat 40 is incorporated in the spring storage recessed portion 18 to reduce the capacity of the pressure chamber 15. Thus, the pressure chamber 15 is filled with oil fed from an oil pump to the oil supply passage 16 immediately when starting the engine, and so the hydraulic damper effect develops immediately after starting the engine.
