摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide and a method and apparatus for elongating a glass base material in which a glass rod of a small bend can be obtained stably in a step of extending and processing the glass base material into a glass rod of a smaller outer diameter by heating and elongating the glass base material.SOLUTION: According to a method for elongating a glass base material, rod-like glass base materials hung by a glass base material feeding mechanism are sequentially fed into a heating furnace, and a glass rod is pulled to a smaller diameter by a pulling chuck situated below the heating furnace. An alignment guiding device which guides the glass rod is provided between the heating furnace and the pulling chuck, and the guiding center of the alignment guiding device is made coincide with the axis of the glass rod.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an optical fiber by which the application to mass production of an optical fiber wire having the surface coated with a resin can be made when reducing the Rayleigh scattering intensity and producing the optical fiber having a low transmission loss. SOLUTION: This apparatus for producing an optical fiber comprises a wire drawing device 1 having a wire drawing furnace 11, a heating furnace 21 for annealing and a resin curing part 31. The optical fiber 3 subjected to thermal wire drawing in the wire drawing furnace 11 is fed to the heating furnace 21 for the annealing and a prescribed site of the optical fiber 3 is annealed at a prescribed cooling rate. The temperature of a heater 22 of the heating furnace 21 for the annealing is set so that the temperature of the furnace center is within the range of 1,300-1,600 deg.C. The resultant optical fiber 3 is then coated with a UV resin liquid 52 with a coating die 51 to hot cure the UV resin in the resin curing part 31. Thereby, an optical fiber wire 4 is obtained.

摘要： After the start of the control operation of a drawing apparatus, the operation control of a line speed being the drawing-in speed of an optical fiber is performed by a line speed control unit (19), and an optical-fiber feed speed control is performed by a preform feed speed control unit (22), in order that an optical fiber outside diameter measured by an optical-fiber outside diameter measurement unit (8) may become a target outside diameter. By way of example, in a case where the distal end of an optical fiber preform is not in a shape steadily melted in a heating furnace, the preform speed control unit (22) controls the feed speed of the optical fiber preform in the three stages of an optical-fiber-preform initial feed speed control, an acceleration-associated preform feed speed control and a line speed-associated preform feed speed control. In a case where the distal end of the optical fiber preform is in the steadily melted shape, the unit (22) controls the preform feed speed in two stages in which the acceleration-associated preform feed speed control is omitted from the three stages. In optical fiber drawing, troubles such as the breaking of the optical fiber can be suppressed even during the acceleration of the line speed.
