Further, the electroslag welding apparatus includes a nozzle angle adjusting mechanism J around x-axis and a nozzle angle adjusting mechanism K around y-axis.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform plasma arc welding in which the welding range in the groove width direction by an arc is wide, and further, to perform thick plate narrow groove multi-pass welding having no generation of welding defects such as a fusion defect.
      SOLUTION: In the plasma arc welding of welding a workpiece by a plasma arc in a plasma torch, a magnetic field generated by an electromagnetic coil is applied to the plasma arc between the plasma torch and the workpiece via a magnetic substance arranged in the vicinity of the nozzle in the plasma torch, and, by the electric current made to flow through the electromagnetic coil, the orientation of the plasma arc to the workpiece is controlled. The energizing through the electromagnetic coil is made discontinuous, or the energizing polarities thereof are alternately switched to oscillate the orientation of the plasma arc to the groove width direction.
