    • PURPOSE:To obtain basic refractories having a uniform and dense structure and high corrosion resistance by impregnating magnesia-chrome refractories with zirconium alkoxide. CONSTITUTION:Basic refractories are obtained by impregnating magnesiachrome refractories with zirconium alkoxide. Gaseous hydrocarbon and steam are volatilized by performing heat treatment. Zirconium alkoxide impregnated into the inside of the magnesia-chrome refractories produces very fine zirconia crystal. The zirconia crystal is uniformly dispersed in the insides of pores infiltrated with zirconium alkoxide and fills the pores to make the structure dense. Furthermore, fine zirconia particles present in the insides of the pores react with slag infiltrated during the use of refractories and viscosity of slag is raised. Infiltration of slag is inhibited. In such a way, the service life of magnesia-chrome refractories is prolonged by inhibiting infiltration of slag which is accompanied by making the structure dense and raising the viscosity of slag.

    • PURPOSE:To eliminate clogging in a tuyere caused by sticking ash of fine powdered coal to the inner face of the tuyere and to reduce thermal loss of the tuyere, by using the fine powdered coal having the specific composition of ash at the time of blowing the fine powdered coal from the tuyere o f the blast furnace. CONSTITUTION:Tip of the pipe 1 for blowing the fine powdered coal is inserted in the tuyere 2 of the blast furnace and by blowing the fine powdered coal in the furnace, efficiency of reduction in the furnace is improved. In this case, the tuyere 2 is prevented from erosion as was cooling structure and also by fitting heat insulating sleeve 3 composing of ceramic material in the inner face, large quantity of thermal loss caused by water cooling of the tuyere is prevented. On the surface of this sleeve 3, the ash 4 generating by combustion of the fine powdered coal is stuck, as a result, the tuyere 2 becomes clogging and some trouble in the blast furnace operation occurs. In order to prevent this, by using the fine powdered coal containing 1.8wt.% of network-modifier oxide of CaO, Na2O, K2O, etc., in the ash at the time of burning at 1,200 deg.C to the total ash, the blast furnace operation, which the trouble of clogging caused by the ash 4 does not occur and thermal loss of the tuyere is little by the heat insulating ceramic sleeve 3, can be executed.
