    • PURPOSE:To provide a titled device which enables stable production of a thin sheet having good quality by connecting side seal refractories to the ends on both sides of two water-cooled rolls, constituting the side dams in contact therewith into the bisected upper and lower parts which perform heating and cooling. CONSTITUTION:A continuous casting device for a thin sheet casts and rolls a thin sheet 5 by supplying a molten metal 3 from a charging nozzle 4 into the space formed of two water-cooled rolls 1, 1' which are juxtaposed horizontally apart from each other at a prescribed space and rotates in the directions different from each other and side dams 2 provided in contact with both side faces thereof. Side seal refractories 10 are attached to both side faces of said rolls 1, 1' of such casting device and the side dams 2 which contact with the rolls 1, 1' via said refractories are made into the bisected construction in which the upper side dam 2A is so constituted as to have a heat generating function and the lower side dam 2B as to have a cooling function. The fluctuation in the sheet thickness is thus prevented and the growth of the solidified shell from the dams 2 is suppressed, by which the breakout is prevented and the product having good quality without having tripple facing patterns in the end part of the billet, etc. is obtd.

    • PURPOSE:To cast a uniform billet having finer texture and to obtain a thin sheet having high quality by providing successively a rolling installation for the formed billet to a titled device which forms a solidified shell with large and small water-cooled rolls contacting with a molten metal. CONSTITUTION:The solidified shells 9, 10 of a molten metal 3 formed by contacting with large and small water-cooled rolls 1, 2 which rotate at the same peripheral speed in an arrow direction are united to form a billet 7. The billet 7 is immediately a rolling installation 11 by pinch rolls 8 and is continuously rolled, whereby a thin sheet 12 is obtd. Variance in the thickness of the billet 7 arises in some case according to the depth at which the rolls 1, 2 are dipped in the metal 3, the fluctuation in the temp. of the molten metal, etc., but the sheet 12 having a uniform thickness is obtd. when the billet is rolled by the installation 11. Although the texture of the billet 7 is relatively coarse and nonuniform, the fine texture is obtd. when the billet is rolled by the installation 11, and the fine voids in the billet 7 are eliminated by the press sticking, whereby the sheet having high quality is obtd.

    • PURPOSE:To cast a strip to a desired thickness stably by using one of water- cooled rolls as a water-cooled roll with a caliber, bringing a side dam into press contact with the arc parts of the water-cooled roll with a caliber and the other water-cooled roll and determining the size of the side dam in such a way that the bottom part thereof is at the position more than the half the peripheral length at which the water-cooled rolls are in contact with the molten metal. CONSTITUTION:One of water-cooled rolls 1, 1' is formed of a water-cooled roll 1' provided with a caliber (p). A side dam 2 is brought into press contact with the arc parts of the roll 1' and the roll 1, and the size of the dam 2 is so determined that the bottom part is located at the position >=1/2 (more particularly about 4/5) the contact peripheral length at which the rolls 1, 1' are in contact with the molten metal. Therefore, the solidification of the edge parts of a strip is effected from right under the side dam 2 and the growth of the solidified shell in the edge parts is retarded from the growth of the solidified shell in the other parts, whereby the strip of a desired thickness is supplied stably.
