    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the visual field angle by making the direction of the axis of polarization of the polarizing plate of a liquid crystal panel and the long-axis directions of liquid crystal molecules nearby the surface of an adjacent substrate nearly parallel. SOLUTION: The polarizing plate 12 is stuck so that the long-axis direction 14 of liquid crystal molecules nearby the surface of the upper substrate of a liquid crystal panel having four kinds of areas with different visual field angle characteristics in one pixel meets the direction 13 of the axis of polarization of the upper polarizing plate. Similarly, the polarizing plate 12 is stuck so that the long-axis direction 16 of liquid crystal molecules nearby the surface of the lower substrate meets the direction 15 of the axis of polarization of the lower polarizing plate. Then there is a direction 17 wherein the maximum contrast ratio of a 1st area is obtained at right angles to the long-side direction of the panel 11 and a direction 18 wherein the maximum contrast ratio of a 2nd area at 90 deg. to the direction. Further, there are directions 19 and 20 wherein the maximum contrast ratios of a 3rd area and a 4th area are obtained further at 90 deg. and 180 deg., and those directions complement visual field angle characteristics with one another.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To embody a desired orientation state in the respective regions within respective pixels of an orientation division type panel and to improve its visual field angle characteristic. SOLUTION: This liquid crystal display element is formed by sealing liquid crystals between an active matrix substrate 1B having active elements 3 in the plural pixels 2 and a substrate 1A having common electrodes facing the same. In such a case, at least one substrate 1B has the plural regions varying in the orientation bearing or pretilt angle of the liquid crystal molecules. These regions are so formed that their boundaries do not overlap on the signal lines 14 of either row direction or column direction of the active matrix substrate 1B. The boundaries of the plural regions described above can exist within the pixels 2 in which the ruggedness of the stabler orientation state does not exits. The orientation of the respective regions are, therefore, stabilized and the divided orientations uniform over the entire part of the screen of the wide visual field angle panel having the plural orientation states in the pixels 2 are obtd.

    • PURPOSE:To form an oriented film uniform in thickness and to realize a high- grade liquid crystal panel by forming cross protrusions on the lattice crossing points of an oriented film soln. transfer plate utilized when am oriented film soln. is transferred to a substrate in an arbitrary shape and removing the protrusions at respective lattice crossing points. CONSTITUTION:Y-shaped protrusions 12 are formed on an oriented film soln. transfer plate 11 utilized when an oriented film soln. is transferred to a substrate in an arbitrary shape and removed at respective lattice crossing points. By this method, the irregulality of the thickness of the liquid film transferred to the substrate can be reduced. The irregularity of the film thickness present immediately after transfer is leveled to a certain degree at a time of drying but, since the thickness irregularity of the oriented film soln. transferred by the oriented film soln. transfer plate 11 wherein the protrusions 12 are removed at the lattice crossing points is efficiently leveled because the area of the formed film is small, that is, the transfer plate 11 is short in cycle on the inner surface of the film thickness irregularity. By this synergistic effect, the uniformity of an oriented film obtained after drying is enhanced.
