    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a generator with excellent insulation reliability of insulating layers and long operation life, by disposing core blocks with dust spacers in-between, fitting stator coils in grooves formed in the core blocks to assemble the coils, and selecting the material of the duct spacers and silicon steel plates for forming the core blocks, so that the coefficient of linear expansion of the duct spacer material is higher than the coefficient of linear expansion of the silicon steel plates for forming the core blocks. SOLUTION: Since insulating layers 42a, 42b, 42c, 42d are usually formed by compacting mica pieces with synthetic resin, they are distorted when stress is applied and can be separated or cracked when application of stress is repeated. In the generator 1, duct spacers 32a, 32b,..., 32m are formed of a material the coefficient of thermal expansion of which is larger than that of silicon steel plates constituting core blocks. As a result, when conductors 4a, 4b in coils are thermally expanded due to temperature rise during operation, the amount of thermal expansion in the stator core 3 can be increased to reduce the difference in displacement between them so that the stress exerted on the insulating layers 42a, 42b, 42c, 42d is reduced, and thus deterioration in the insulating layers can be prevented.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a diagnostic method in which the insulation degradation state of an electric apparatus can be diagnosed with better accuracy by a method wherein the exfoliation state in the interior of an insulating layer is inspected, a maximum discharge electric charge amount is corrected according to its inspection result and a residual breakdown voltage is found. SOLUTION: First, the exfoliation state in the interior of an insulating layer is inspected. Its inspection can be performed nondestructivrely by analyzing the hammering sound of the insulating layer. The hammering sound can be analyzed, e.g. by dividing an octave spectrum analytical distribution into patterns. Then, according to the inspection result of the exfoliation state, an exfoliation factor A is found, a maximum discharge electric charge amount Qm is corrected, a computing operation is performed by an expression Vr=100-a.(Δ-b)-c.log(Qm.A/d) by using a corrected maximum discharge electric charge amount Qm.A, and a residual breakdown voltage Vr is found. In the expression, Δ represents an electric discharge parameter, (a), (b) and (c) represent respective factors decided separately according to the material or the like of the insulatinglayer, and (d) represents the thickness of the insulating layer. The exfoliation factor A is a nonelectric parameter, and it reflects the exfoliation state at the inside of the insulating layer.

    • PURPOSE:To provide an AC-DC converter in which a downsized thin transformer is employed without sacrifice of withstand voltage and without increasing the switching frequency of a switching element. CONSTITUTION:The AC-DC converter comprises two charge accumulating means 3, 4 connected in series between AC input terminals 2a, 2b, a rectifying means 5 having input side connected across one charge accumulating means 4, a thin transformer 7 having primary and secondary windings 7a, 7b, a power switching element 8 connected in series with the primary winding 7a and coupled to the output side of the rectifying means 5 along with the primary winding 7a, and rectifying/smoothing means 9, 10 having input sides connected with the secondary winding 7b and the output sides connected with DC output terminals 12a, 12b. A plurality of wire conductors are wound spirally and concentrically around a wire core conductor through dielectric films to produce a composite conductor which is then wound spirally and flatly to constitute the thin transformer 7.
