Both rolls are disposed to be brought into contact with each other directly or through a very small interval so that the axial centers 8a and 10a of both rolls are in parallel. When the coating liquid adhered on the surface of the coating roll 8 is applied on the outer peripheral face of the roll 10 to be coated, both rolls are moved relatively by the moving means 2, 3 and 4 while rotating the roll 10 to be coated and the coating roll 8 are rotated.

A division length original number and a long 1-line dot are calculated so as to increase a line length in the main scanning direction in a range not exceeding the maximum processing capability of the companding section 14. The image information stored in the memory 20 is divided into plural length whose width in the main scanning direction is calculated.

Then whether or not the length M in the main scanning direction exceeds a maximum processing width L is discriminated. When the length M does not exceeds the length L, the processing line width in the main scanning direction is set to M. A line number (n) provided sequentially to each line in the main scanning direction is set to 1 to conduct coding processing of n-lines. When the M exceeds the L, the maximum value L is set and a data number (f) by one line and a number (m) of the split line are set respectively to 1 to read the division data whose length is L.
