    • PURPOSE:To improve the effect of horizontal focus of an electron beam by providing a focusing electrode which has a through hole that almost matches with the center line of a control electrode, on the back surface of a substrate, and which focuses the electron in the direction that a cathode is extended, between an electron deriving electrode and a deflecting electrode. CONSTITUTION:The effect of horizontal focus of an electron beam is defined by the combination of a horizontal control electrode 18 and a horizontal focusing electrode 30. Namely, an electron radiation part P of a cathode 16 provided close to the electrode 18, so as to give almost predetermined spot diameter through the electrode 18, is determined accurately. Electron is derived by an electron deriving electrode 22 to which positive electric potential is applied, in relation to the cathode 16. The effect of electron beam focus is augmented by a through hole 30a of an electrode 302 in the region of (b), and the electron beam can be led to a screen surface. Even when beam current is increased, or even when an interval between cathode and anode is increased, sufficient effect of horizontal focus can thus be achieved.

    • PURPOSE:To eliminate non-uniformity in brightness generated between blocks on a screen without reducing an effective display area by juxtaposing a beam current detecting electrode backward longitudinally correspondingly to a cathode. CONSTITUTION:A beam current detecting electrode 24 is interposed between insulative layers 34 and a back plate 12 each disposed under horizontal control electrodes 16. A positive high voltage is applied to the electrode 24. Almost all electrons emitted from the region of a cathode 14 disposed opposite to intervals 16a formed between the striped horizontal control electrodes 16 through the intervals 16a are absorbed into the electrode 24. Accordingly, a beam current detector 36 detects the current of the electrode 24, and a voltage controller 38 controls the voltage applied to an electron beam flow control electrode 22, thereby making the amount of beams reaching a screen constant. Therefore, the operation can be performed in the same manner in the whole region of the cathode, thus keeping the brightness of the whole screen uniform.
