The frames 1, 2 may be held together by clips 3 in the frame 1 engaging in openings in the frame 2 and/or a double-side adhesive tape.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sewing machine which can prevent a malfunction due to a user's forgetting to switch the mode of a feed dog.SOLUTION: The sewing machine includes: a sewing machine body 1 having a needle plate 11; a feed dog 35 which is provided in the sewing machine body 1 and is maintained in a feeding mode of being protruded above the top surface of the needle plate 11 for feeding cloth during normal sewing; and a presser bar lifter lever 2 which can be manually switched to a plurality of operation positions by a user so as to move up and down a presser bar 13 for pressing the cloth. In addition, a link mechanism 5 is provided between the presser bar lifter lever 2 and the feed dog 35 in the sewing machine body 1. The link mechanism 5 allows the feed dog 35 to be maintained in a sunk mode of being sunk below the top surface of the needle plate 11 by a mechanical linkage with the manual switching operation of the presser bar lifter lever 2 to an operation position other than the normal sewing operation position.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sewing machine eliminating the need of troublesome preparation and readily and surely effecting positioning when a user positions a processed fabric to a sewing starting point.
      SOLUTION: A controller of the sewing machine performs preparation operation for positioning, when the user operates a switch for switching the vertical position of a needle or sets a free motion mode. In the positioning preparation, after a feed dog is switched to a non-operation position by a feed dog-switching mechanism, a presser foot-lifting mechanism is controlled to lower a presser foot 8 to a pressing position to abut on a processed fabric W, and the thickness of the processed fabric W is detected from a detection signal of a height position-detecting device. From the detected thickness, the presser foot 8 is stopped at a lifted position, for example, lifted by 1 mm from the upper surface of the processed fabric W, and a sewing machine motor is controlled to move a needle bar 6 to a setting position immediately before the tip of the sewing needle 7 sticks the processed fabric W (e.g. 1 mm above).
