    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aqueous resin composition which is a top coating resin composition excellent in stain resistance, water resistance, alcohol resistance, and weatherability as well, excels in adhesion and the like without causing the change of properties such as cloudiness in the overcoating, and is suitably used as an intercoating material as well.SOLUTION: The aqueous resin composition is obtained by polymerizing 1.0-10 mass% aqueous macromer having an ethylenically unsaturated group and a polyoxyalkylene group, 0.5-5 mass% ethylenically unsaturated monomer having a carboxyl group, 0-5 mass% ethylenically unsaturated monomer having a hydroxyl group, and 98.5-80 mass% another copolymerizable α,β-ethylenically unsaturated monomer in the presence of an aqueous resin dispersion (A) of 0-20 mass% aqueous macromer a1 having an ethylenically unsaturated group and a polyoxyalkylene group and 80-100 mass% single α,β-ethylenically unsaturated monomer a2 having a Tg of 90-180°C.
