    • PURPOSE:To improve firing capability and prevent a radio noise, by providing electrically insulated two electrodes to a combustion chamber of an internal- combustion engine and forming a spark gap for a spark discharge. CONSTITUTION:Electric discharge plugs 4 without having an earth electrode are provided to a cylinder head 6, and plus voltage is applied to one of the plugs while minus voltage is applied to the other plug to perform electric discharge in a a spark gap (h) and ignition of a mixture. Since a high voltage circuit used for these plugs is floated from a vehicle body, voltage at an electric discharge can be decreased to a half level and required insulation breakdown voltage of parts such as high tension cables, spark plugs 4, etc. can be halved. Further the plug 4, not having an earth electrode, is consumed in a few cases by overheat, and a sufficient thermal value can be ensured. In this way, firing capability is also improved and a radio noise can be also prevented.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent the occurrence of preignition as well as to improve the extent of heat resistance, by using a ceramic sintered body made of nitride as a cylinder head, while unifying an electrode material excellent in the heat resistance and the cylinder head at the time of sintering. CONSTITUTION:A cylinder head 1 consists of a nitriding silicon sintered body having high insulating and high thermal conductive properties. A shaft hole 1d composed of both an end side small diametral hole 1e and a terminal side large diametral hole 1f partitioned by a step part 1c to be reduced in diameter is made up on this combustion chamber inner surface 1a, and inside this shaft hole, a heat resisting positive electrode 2 provided with a discharge part 2a firmly coupled and projected to and from the combustion chamber inner surface 1a is installed. In addition, a negative electrode 3 opposite to the electrode 2 is coupled alike with the shaft hole 1d. Sintering for the cylinder head is carried out after both positive and negative electrodes 2 and 3 are formed up in advance. With this, not only preignition is prevented but also heat resistance is improved, say, a double purpose.
