    • PURPOSE:To increase the speed of coloration and to stabilize the density of coloring in an electrochromic display which uses a compd. resembling to styryl as a coloring material, by applying two kinds of potentials on coloring segments. CONSTITUTION:The voltage for increasing a coloring speed and the voltage for maintaining density stably are applied on coloring segments. More specifically, 1.5V is applied for about one second as an initial high potential, and 1.0V is applied for about one second as the next low potential thereon. Then, the rise time increase dependently on the voltage and when the low potential is applied, the density decreases once but increases again to the level similar to the level when the voltage is applied continuously in the initial period. The speed of coloration of thus increased and the density of coloring is stabilized.
