    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rubber composition for a base tread capable of improving high mileage, fracture resistant strength and processability in a good balance, and a pneumatic tire using the composition.SOLUTION: The rubber composition comprises a rubber component, silica, and a compound expressed by a formula (I). In 100 mass% of the rubber component, the following conjugate diene polymer is included by 5 mass% or more: the conjugate diene polymer has a monomer unit based on a conjugate diene, a monomer unit based on a compound having a substituted silyl group, and a monomer unit based on a compound having a substituted amino group or a nitrogen-containing heterocyclic group, and the polymer is modified, at least in one end of the copolymer, with at least one compound selected from a compound group consisting of compounds having an amino group and a carbonyl group which may have a substituent and compounds having an amino group and a thiocarbonyl group which may have a substituent. The composition contains, with respect to 100 parts by mass of the rubber composition, 5 to 150 parts by mass of the silica. In the formula (I), drepresents an integer of 0 to 8.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a recyclable gas barrier copolymer excellent in gas barrier properties, transparency, heat stability and bondability to PS by forming it so that it may comprises a specified repeating aromatic vinyl units and repeating vicinal diol units and it may have a specified molecular weight. SOLUTION: This gas barrier copolymer comprises 0.1-90mol% repeating aromatic vinyl units represented by formula I (wherein R is H or CH3 ; R is H or a 20C or lower alkyl; and (a) is 1-3), 10-99.9mol% repeating vicinal diol units represented by formula II (wherein X and X are each R ) and 50mol% or below (the total is 100mol%) repeating 4C monoepoxy and/or conjugated diene units and has a weight-average molecular weight of 10,000-1,000,000 (in terms of the PS). This copolymer can be produced, for example, by subjecting an epoxidized copolymer obtained by adding an organic acid and H2 O2 to a styrene/butadiene random copolymer solution obtained by anionic solution polymerization and reacting the whole to a ring opening reaction with an organic acid and reacting the product with an alkali.
