    • PURPOSE:To increase the maximum regenerating power by providing semiconductor switches which connect a commutation helping circuit to the AC power supply terminals of a converter, and semiconductor switches for inverting commutation- capacitor voltage. CONSTITUTION:An AC power supply 1 is connected to a load 5 by way of an AC- side reactor 2, a main thyristor bridge 3, and a reactor 4. A diode bridge 7 is connected to AC-side terminals a and b of the main bridge 3, and an overvoltage suppression capacitor 8 is connected to the DC side of the diode bridge 7. Furthermore, is provided a commutation helping circuit 6, wherein are connected a commutation capacitor 65 and a commutation reactor 66 which are connected in series with thyristors 61 and 62, and thyristors 63 and 64 for inverting the voltage of the commutation capacitor 65. Therefore, the effect of the AC-side reactance 2 can be eliminated, and the regenerating power from an inverter 10 can be increased.

    • PURPOSE:To minimize higher harmonic components contained in the primary current of the AC converter by so setting the value of reactance of an AC converter winding that the commutation of each converter will be done in the prescribed order when each converter simultaneously starts its commutation. CONSTITUTION:A commutation current of the first converter starts to flow and during this commutation period a change of the commutation current of other converters 14-22 is held almost at zero. At the phasial angle point of the completed commutation of the first converter 12 the commutation current of the second converter 14 starts to flow and during this commutation period the current change of the other converters 16-22 is held almost at zero and at the phasial angle of the point of completed commutation of the second converter 14, the third converter 16 commutation current starts to flow. Likewise each converter commutation is done in turn and at the phasial angle of the finished commutation of the last converter 22 the communication of all converters 16-22 will finish.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent a rapid change of a braking force at a change over of resistors by detecting that a vehicle speed reaches to a predetermined value with a vehicle speed detector, and then decreasing a field current to a predetermined value to change over a resistor in a dynamic brake at braking. CONSTITUTION:When a main motor 8 is operated as a separately excited generator by connecting its armature to a dynamic brake resistor 11 and closing a braking switch 15 to decrease a current of a field winding 13 through a rectifier 4d at dynamic braking, a decision circuit checks whether a vehicle speed reaches to the speed to be change over reistance of the dynamic brake resistor 11 or not base on an output from a vehicle speed detector and commands to decrease the field current to a predetermined value and the resistor is changed over with a circuit breadker 12 after detection of this decrese. By this means, a smooth change over of the brake resistor can be made without a rapid change of a braking force in a main circuit.
