    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To protect an important slip or card by removing foreign substances on a reading surface when the slip or card is placed at a reading position in a device which reads the rectangular slip or card optically or with an IC chip and radio waves.SOLUTION: A slip reading device is provided with: a member for positioning the two surfaces of the slip or card; and a light-shielded path for allowing the foreign substances to pass therethrough, in the center of the positioning member. The slip reading device comprises a mechanism for protecting the slip or card by providing a smooth convex member at a position in the reading surface opposed to the positioning member, which prevents the foreign substances from entering the reading surface and facilitates taking out of the card or the like.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus capable of removing foreign matters like paper powder or dusts from a conveying path.
      SOLUTION: When a sheet-like medium P is conveyed by at least a conveying roller 10, a charging member 13 is charged, so that an electric attracting force is applied to foreign matters like paper powder or dusts on a conveying path, on which the sheet-like medium P is conveyed. Thereby, when the foreign matters like paper powder or dusts on the conveying path are conveyed to a slit 121 of a guide plate 12 by the sheet-like medium P conveyed by the conveying roller 10, they pass through the slit 121 and are adsorbed to the charging member 13. That is to say, the foreign matters like paper powder or dusts can be removed from the conveying path.
