    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid pump capable of preventing leak of liquid from a mechanical seal part. SOLUTION: The water pump 1 is provided with a rotating shaft 30, a rotor 20, a housing 10, and a mechanical seal section 50, interposed between the rotating shaft 30 and housing 10, surrounding the rotating shaft 30, and forming a liquid-tight space covering the rotor 20 in the housing 10. The mechanical seal section 50 is provided with a stationary body 53 connected to the housing 10, a rotary body 52 connected to and rotating with the rotor 20 and abutting on the stationary body 53, and a spring 56 enhancing air tightness at the mechanical seal section 50 by pressing the stationary body 53 toward the rotary body 52 in a thrust direction. Distribution of contact force between the stationary body 53 and rotary body 52 is generated by the force applied by cooling water 100 onto the rotor 20.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a spacer for a water jacket exert a capture function of foreign matter flowing and moving in a lubrication system, by focusing attention on the spacer for a water jacket installed to narrow a flow passage of cooling fluid and by contriving a shape and structure of the spacer.
      SOLUTION: A cooling water inlet part of the water jacket in a cylinder block is an inlet concave part to generate a vortex flow of cooling water. A spacer inlet part 7 fitted into the inlet concave part is formed integrally with an outer peripheral side of a spacer body part 6 to be formed along the outer peripheral side. A bypass passage 11 is formed to an upper end part of the spacer inlet part 7 so that the bypass passage is opened to a front part and a back part of an inclined upper face 7a of the spacer inlet part 7. A plurality of bottomed foreign matter capture holes 11 are formed in parallel with each other, and each upper end of the foreign matter capture hole 10 is opened to the communication passage 11c of the bypass passage 11, and each foreign matter capture hole 10 is extended downward.

      SOLUTION: This cooling structure 1 for a cylinder block is provided with a cylinder block 10 in which a water jacket 12 is continuously provided around a bore wall 11b enclosing a plurality of bore ranges 111, 112, and 113, and a water jacket spacer 20 inserted into the water jacket part 12 to form a gap to the bore wall 11b. Cooling medium is supplied to the water jacket part 12, so that temperature of the bore wall 11b is equalized. In the cylinder block 10, inter-bore ranges 10b positioned around the boundaries between adjoining two of the bore ranges 111, 112, and 113, and the other ranges 10a are provided. Area of the gap between the bore wall 11 and the water jacket spacer 20 in the inter-bore range 10b is smaller than area of the gap between the bore wall 11b and the water jacket spacer 20 in the other range 10a.
